Mark DESNOYERS Obituary

MARK GEORGE DESNOYERS July 21, 1960 - September 14, 2023 The family is heartbroken to announce the passing of Mark in Magog, Quebec, due to natural causes at the age of 63. Mark was the son of Gail and Gilbert Desnoyers; and brother of Monique, Alan and Natalie. Born in Baie Comeau, he started school in La Malbaie further up the St. Lawrence River, where his father built a cable plant for Reynolds Aluminum. From early childhood, Mark had a fascination for the ships going up and down the river, especially the red and white ones. He also loved our explorations en famille of Charlevoix county in our red Mustang. Later, the family moved to Ste Therese near Montreal, where Mark attended Elmwood School in Rosemere, then Presentation High in Montebello. He became a CCG officer when he graduated for the Canadian Coast Guard College in Sydney, Nova Scotia, before working on the CCGS Pierre Radisson icebreaker, travelling through the North West Passage to Tuktoyaktuk and taking photographs of icebergs and polar bears from the bow of the ship. He later skippered a tall ship up the Labrador coast to Nain while living in Quebec City. He studied business at the Université de Sherbrooke, holding several positions in Montreal, Vancouver and Comox, BC. Coming back to his home on the water, he was First Mate on the Escapades ship on Lake Memphrémagog that he really enjoyed. Mark was an excellent self-taught artist, focused on Renaissance drawing and always learning. He struggled with depression most of his life, so we are all happy to know that his suffering is over. Mark did not want to have a funeral service, but did suggest that you contribute to a Charity of Your Choice in his name. Burial of his ashes in Les Eboulements, Charlevoix, overlooking the St. Lawrence River will be held at a later date.

Good old Dork as he was nicknamed in Montebello. For 2 years we were Brothers in Montebello. Wicked smart, good skier, all of your Montebello classmates respected you, and in fact Mark was class president. Rest in peace Mark, I still think about you 49 years later.
