James Eakins Obituary

EAKINS, James Gray McLeod
James Gray McLeod Eakins, a beloved husband, father, brother, and friend, passed away on January 13, 2024 at the age of 69 years old, in Victoria, BC. He was born on April 19, 1954, in Toronto, Ontario, and his passing has left a profound void in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
Gray was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Alana, and a loving father to his sons, Oliver and Matthew (Christie). He was a loving brother to Elizabeth and was predeceased by his brothers, Jaime, Jack, as well as his parents. Gray also leaves behind many nieces, nephews and extended family who adored him. His love went beyond his human family members, embracing all of his dogs and cats, who were doted on as beloved members of the family throughout his life.
Gray was a man of many passions, and his love for travel and adventure was evident in his zest for life. He found solace in the beauty of the world, and his passion for Camino de Santiago walks allowed him to connect with the world around him in a profound way. His adventurous spirit and love for exploration were a source of inspiration to all who knew him.
His close friendships and family were the cornerstone of his life, and he treasured every moment spent with those he held dear. He found joy in walking, cycling, and enjoying the outdoors with friends and looked forward to the camaraderie and shared experiences that came with each time they met up.
His dedication to giving back to the community was clear in his involvement with such things as volunteering with Habitat for Humanity building projects, where he formed lasting friendships and made a tangible impact on the lives of others. Giving back to the community locally and afar was very close to his heart. He also was an avid blood donor over the course of his life.
His work at Queen Alexandra Centre was not just a job but a source of fulfillment and satisfaction, as he formed deep connections with his colleagues and found purpose in his contributions. He dedicated himself wholeheartedly, forming deep and meaningful connections with his colleagues over the years.
Gray bravely faced his battle with cancer with courage and grace, and his strength inspired all who knew him. His passing has left a profound impact on the lives of those he touched, and his memory will forever be treasured. The world has lost not only a generous soul but also a genuine and caring friend in Gray. We will forever feel the absence of his warmth and kindness.
James Gray McLeod Eakins will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy of love, kindness, and compassion will continue to live on in the hearts of those he leaves behind. May he rest in peace, knowing that he was loved and cherished by many.

A celebration of Gray's life will be held in Victoria on February 4, 2024. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Victoria Hospice Society.
