Murray KOSICK Obituary

We are deeply saddened to announce that on February 10, 2024 Murray Kosick passed away surrounded by his family. Murray is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Anna, his sons Mark (Andrea) and Thomas (Amy-Lynn); his grandchildren Noah, Grace, Emma and Eva; his sisters Shelley and Gloria, and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Helen (Nash) and Frank Kosick.
Murray was born on July 24, 1950 in Calgary, Alberta. He attended the University of Manitoba Faculty of Dentistry, graduating in 1973. In 1974 he moved to Vancouver Island and started his dental practice in Sidney.
Murray soon found a passion for sports fishing. He honed his skills over the years and loved competing in fishing derbies, teaching others what he had learned, and taking friends out on fishing trips.
Murray instilled his love of sports and of fishing in his sons. He prioritized his family and was always there to cheer them on, provide loving support, guidance, encouragement and many opportunities to have fun. In his retirement he especially loved spending time with his grandchildren and watching them in their various activities.
Murray was always quick to make everyone around him laugh with a joke. He was the first person to pick the phone and check on you. He will be deeply missed.

I am in the midst of writing `my story´ and was at the place of going to Keddlesten camp from Winnipeg with Murray in his VW Bug. I thought I would research to see what Murray was up to and to my surprise saw that he had passed. I had NO idea he had passed. I am 2 weeks older than him and we were known (by his father) as `The pillars of the Assembly´ (Zion Church).
Condolences to Anna and family. Also to Gloria & Shelley.

Dr Kosick was my dentist from the time I was 2 in 1974. He was always so kind to me and my siblings. I still love going to the dentist because it was always a highlight to see Dr Kosick! I'm saddened to hear of his passing. He was a wonderful man who touched many.

Anna and Family.....Murray was such a great guy....he was known in my circle as "Doctor Painless" and he was such a kind and talented dentist. He always made sure I understood what was happening, took lots of time and was so compassionate in his followup. I think I may have been one of his first patients when he came to Sidney and I was one of his last. I like to think that outside the office, we were friends - always sharing a moment to say hi and tell a tale. I was saddened to hear of his passing knowing what a rich life he had with his family and his passion for fishing. He will be fondly remembered, and sorrowfully missed.

I´m so saddened to read of Murray´s passing. We arrived in Sidney about the same time and besides being our caring and skilled painless dentist and friend, our kids were always at the rink together or on a soccer field or baseball diamond. Life seems often unfair... but it´s the good guys and exceptional fathers like Murray who´ve added humour, friendship, dedication, loyalty, and meaning to our numbered days. Sincere condolences to Anna and the boys.

We were pretty little when we were at Tante Ushi's for dinner in Deep Cove and the word in that house was that beautiful Anna had a boyfriend and what a good guy he was. I remember being excited of maybe meeting him one day. Well we did because he became our family dentist and he was without exception the kindest, best dentist I have ever had. Reading everything about him here speaks to how the little person in me was right! Liebe Anna and family, thinking of you and sending healing and love even after all of these years. Love Andrea (Doehnel)

I am profoundly saddened to hear this news. Murray was a regular at my lab in Sidney over the last few years and he was beloved. He showed up with treats for us from the bakery more often than not, was always upbeat and impish, no matter how he was struggling. We will truly miss his kind smile and gentle spirit. He was a favourite, for sure. I love reading these comments about him and confirming that he was much loved across the land. I'm so sorry that you've had to say good-bye.

I´m so saddened to learn of Murray´s passing. I first met Murray shortly after he arrived in Sidney. A group of my friends, then in their late teens and early 20s, and I were playing a pickup game of football on a field kitty corner from the old North Saanich school. Murray came along and joined the opposing team. He quickly scored a touchdown, despite the efforts of our ragtag team to tackle him into the mud. Later, we´d play on the same rec hockey team at Panorama. And, quite notably he became a sport fishing whiz and protege of my grandfather, leading him, in the twilight of his life, on an expedition to Bamfield in the company of a TV crew. My family is forever grateful for the beautiful eulogy Murray delivered at his funeral. My condolences to Anna, their sons Mark and Tommy (I also have a fond memory of Murray playing father-son-hockey with them at Panorama when they were just tykes), and the rest of Murray´s extended family and friends.

We are so very sad to hear of Murray's passing. I met Murray in high school (grade 12) at Daniel McIntyre Collegiate Institute and then the following year at U of Winnipeg for one year pre-dental science , and finally 4 years of Dentistry at U of Manitoba. He was definitely a great classmate with a little wildness to him. Our class was extremely close and it was with great sadness that 2 days before our 50th. reunion last September in Victoria, Murray fell and was hospitalized. I have tears in my eyes as I write this.
Anna , he was such a great guy , and Barb and I wish you our sincere condolences. Barbie and Ken

Thanks Murray for being ur friend, for living in ur house, for tons of cola and beer, for the best burgers on the patio, for letting me have couple naps with Billy in the garden, with the nicest view in the world. Thanks for so many hours on the water with a lot of "pinks", specially for that day on the ocean with no pink. It wasn´t boring at all. Thanks for teaching me about life and family. A big thanks for make my friends Mark, Tom and Andrea to those great personalities, which they´re today. Thanks for the burgers and chicken fingers at the baseball park while watching Noah and Grace play the Game. Thanks for everything. I love u

Our thoughts go out to the Kosick family on learning of Murray"s passing.
He arrived in Sidney one year before us and we had many memorable interactions both in business and in the ice arena as our boys enjoyed the game of hockey. He was an inspiration and be missed by all.
