Peter James Stansky, 31, died from a lightning strike on September 22, 2025, after hunting near Lake Okeechobee, FL. Peter's hunting companion and Peter's two dogs also died in the accident.
Peter was born in Columbia, MD and grew up in Ellicott City where he enjoyed exploring nearby woods for plants and creatures and spending his summers at Forest Hill pool. Peter graduated from St. Paul's School in Brooklandville, MD and attended the University of Miami in Coral Gables, FL where he studied Engineering and Marine Science. Peter was an avid outdoorsman who loved fishing and bow-hunting with his expertly trained German Shorthaired Pointers, Bo and Harley. Peter's family and friends will miss his warm personality, curiosity, creativity, and relentless sense of adventure.
Peter is survived by his parents, Carolan (Bombara) and Brian Stansky of Ellicott City, MD, his sister, Emily Stansky of Boston, MA, and his fraternal twin brother, Mark Stansky of New York City. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, and cousins. Peter will be long remembered by the innumerable friends he made in each place he lived.
Peter's funeral Mass will be celebrated at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, November 22, 2025, at St. Paul Catholic Church, 3755 St. Paul St., Ellicott City, MD 21043. A Celebration of Life is also being planned for that day. Burial is private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the animal charity or food bank of your choice.
