I lived with Vera for some time as a student at Victoria, in the little room in the garden. Vera was a strong woman who took wonderful care of her dogs and also her mother, who was very elderly and frail by the time I met her, and did not speak a word of English. I will always remember Vera's generosity and kindness.

Vera was a lovely and very respected colleague in our School of Languages at Victoria. I feel very privileged to have worked with her.

It's been sad to hear of Vera's passing. Vera will always be remembered and loved by those who had the privilege of knowing her, including her colleagues and her students. May the Celebration of her Life reflect in some small measure the beneficent impact that she has left on the lives of others. Irene Zohrab.

I met Vera when I was studying Russian language and literature at VUW in the 1970s. Then in 1985 she was engaged by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to give me refresher tuition in Russian language prior to my posting to the New Zealand Embassy in Moscow. The last time I saw her was many years ago when she was walking along Lyall Bay beach with her dog. I remember Vera as a kind and friendly soul with a good sense of humour.

Vera was the kindest person I met in my life. May her soul rest in peace. She will be missed and never forgotten
