I am so sad to hear about Chris Fortune's passing. Although I knew him briefly, his vibrant personality and dedication to his craft left a lasting impression on me.
Chris was a generous spirit who offered to cater a Ukrainian reception for my exhibition at the Nelson Provincial Museum. I met him when I took his photo with a student for my photography class at NMIT. Collaborating with him on the menu was terrific. His ability to bring people together through food was evident when he hosted a special Ukrainian menu at the Rata Room shared my photos for his South American menu. What a great trade. I'm so sorry your family has lost such a special person.
I won't forget Chris as a humorous and engaging commentator at the Mussel Festival. His charisma added joy to the event. I am sure his commitment to teaching and sharing knowledge inspired many; I had hoped to take classes from him in the future.

Tina - so very sorry to hear abut Chris. He was a very lovely man with a huge heart - we especially loved his passion for teaching kids to cook. The crepes he taught the children to make at Linkwater School all those years ago are still made in our house.
Everyone will miss him xxx

At times like this, one reflects on the privilege of working with Chris, both at NMIT and in other corners of our culinary world. We look back on the fun times and the invaluable skills Chris passed on to chefs, both young and old. His generosity in sharing his expertise was unmatched, always ready to help those eager to improve.

Chris, may your life be remembered not only for the joy you brought to our profession but also for the countless ways you touched other areas of life. Chef Fortune, you will be deeply missed.

Thank you for being a part of my life.

Deeply saddened at the loss of such a great guy. As his teacher in his latter primary school years and his leader at Motueka Venturer Scouts I always knew that he had a good future ahead of him. It is so sad that it has been cut short. My son Kim and I shared many experiences tramping, camping and kayaking with him until we each moved away and lost contact. Sincere condolences his family.
