Harvey and I often seemed to meet in the corridors of Nelson Hospital on our way home and spend up to 30 minutes discussing what needed to be done to enhance patient services. He was committed to caring for people with an empathy still needed in health care.

Harvey was one of those human treasures one meets but rarely in a lifetime. He seemed to effortlessly combine deep and gentle kindness, with enormous skill and knowledge. Every time we met, I felt enriched by his wisdom. The world is a poorer place without him.

Dear Lois, so sad to learn of Harvey´s passing . He was a wonderful mentor to me when I was a 5th year student and house surgeon in then early 70s, then as a colleague from the 80s on. His work ethic was second to none and he was a great asset to the Nelson medical scene.
We are in Australia so can´t be there on Saturday- our thoughts are with you- love Kevin and Kay.
