George Tiedeman Obituary

Age 92 of Wilmington, Illinois and formerly of Orland Park, Illinois died Saturday, August 5, 2023 at the Illinois Veterans Home in Manteno, Illinois.

Born August 10, 1930 in Downers Grove, Illinois, George Raymond was a son of Henry, Sr. and Stella Rose (Joswick) Tiedeman. He was raised in Brookfield, Illinois and graduated from Brookfield Riverside High School. George went on to honorably serve in the United States Navy and served during the Korean Conflict, where he earned many medals and accolades including a Silver Star and three Purple Hearts.

On February 19, 1955, George married Nancy Eileen Sarat in St. Priscilla Parish in Chicago. He spent a successful career working in the insurance industry, and following his retirement then went on to work part-time as a locksmith. George held his private pilot’s license and was a member of the Civil Air Patrol for many years; was a member of St. Rose Catholic Church in Wilmington; belonged to the Father George Kuzma Council of the Knights of Columbus and enjoyed volunteering with the Wilmington Lions Club annual Spook Hike. In his free time, George took pleasure in fishing, was a huge history and war buff, and enjoyed watching Westerns.

Survivors include his four children: Ray (Cindy) Tiedeman of Prairie Grove, Arkansas, Cindy (Marty) Conry of Crown Point, Indiana, Caroline (Brian) Wood of Loda, Illinois and Cathy (Joe) Valone of Manhattan, Illinois; (10) grandchildren: Megan Conry (Brian Mustradi), Julie Conry, Alisa (Dan) Sloan, Adam Valone, Staci Wood (Mike Montalto), Christina (Jake) Brock, Max Valone, Andy Tiedeman, Arlen Tiedeman and Shenne Tiedeman; four great grandchildren: Isabelle Brock, Makayla Brock, Lillian Brock and Greyson Sloan; one sister-in-law, Jeanette (Wayne) Shust of Palatine, Illinois, and numerous nieces and nephews.

George was preceded in death by his parents; wife Nancy on November 19, 2022; siblings: Henry Jr. (Joydine) Tiedeman, Dorothy (Robert) Ambler and Johnny Tiedeman in infancy, and sister-in-law, Doris (George) Formanski.

The family will receive friends for a visitation at Baskerville Funeral Home, 700 East Kahler Road in Wilmington on Friday, August 11, 2023 between the hours of 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.

Cremation rites will be accorded following the visitation.

Funeral services will follow Saturday morning, August 12, 2023 in St. Rose Catholic Church, 604 S. Kankakee Street in Wilmington. The family will assemble at the church at 9:30, and a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Reverend Sebastian Gargol will preside.

George will be laid to rest with Military Honors in Maplewood Cemetery in New Lenox along with his late wife Nancy, mother Stella Rose, and brother Johnny.

Preferred memorials may be made as gifts in George’s memory to a Veteran’s Charity of the donor’s choosing.
