I will turn 80 yrs old this year so am of Russell's father's generation.

My father was the youngest of a family of ten and Russell's grandfather was the oldest of that family. My Uncle Les and Auntie Win were also my Godparents.

Oh, how kind and dear they were to me when I was a young fellow.

When I stayed with them as a schoolboy they had built their dream home on the hill in Mangorei Road overlooking what is now "Tupare". Russell's parents, Charlie and Tottie, lived in their first dwelling, just below.

Of course, there was little preschooler Russell... an absolutely charming little boy who was the centre of attention for us all.

I submit my condolences to all of the family but due to my past connection must say that particularly "my heart bleeds" for Tottie who has survived her treasured little boy.

"May God give you Peace and his Countenance Shine Upon You"...

Very sad to hear this news Wendy. Didn't have much contact with you guys recently but my memories of Russell go back to school days at Mangorei. That skinny little kid turned out to be a larger than life character who was well respected in his community. Fond memories of watching the boys playing for a pretty good Inglewood team.
