Ann THORNTON Obituary

THORNTON,
Ann Patricia (Ann):
Ann died peacefully at Russley Village on Friday, June 2, 2023, after a short illness. Ann was lovingly cared for by her family members and the staff at Russley. Deeply loved wife of Jim (dec) of sixty years, their children and partners, Steve and Dita, Rachel and Steffen, Mark and Dianne, and Pete and Shell. Dearly loved oma of her grandchildren and partners: Saskia and Mike, Anneke and Max, Ariel and Vlad, Merijn and Izzy; grandma of Leroy, and loved great-grandmother of Toby and Jack; dearly loved sister of Francie and brother-in-law Jim. Ann will be sorely missed by numerous close friends and many members of the Diamond Harbour community of which she was a highly valued contributor. A private family funeral was held at Rachel and Steffen's home. Ann tirelessly campaigned for 13 years to have the green burial cemetery section of the Diamond Harbour Memorial Garden established, and it is fitting testament to her commitment, tenacity and determination that she was laid to rest next to her beloved Jim. Cards and messages can be sent to: Thornton Family, c/o 30 Whero Avenue, RD 1, Lyttelton 8971.

Special memories of an impressive, influential woman who impacted my life positively as mentor, friend, and more when we were colleagues at Barnardos.
Thinking of you all.

Thinking of you all, the extended Thornton family at this time. Ann and Jim were such kind and interested people and I recall fondly my years at UC where I was so warmly welcomed at their home at Moncks Bay.
