Gary L. Welch, 75, of Davenport, Iowa, passed Friday, October 3, 2025, at Good Samaritan Society.
Cremation will take place at Trimble Crematory, Moline, Illinois, under the direction of Cremation Society of the Quad Cities. A graveside service will take place at a later date to be announced. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to David Welch for a fund to be established.
Gary Lee Welch was born June 8, 1950, in Davenport, Iowa, the son of Joseph and Elaine (Kent) Welch. Throughout his life, Gary worked in many physically demanding jobs, including at Oscar Mayer, Blackhawk Foundry, and the City of Davenport. He married Barbara Isham on September 6, 1980, in Davenport. She preceded him in death on October 16, 1997.
Summers were Gary’s favorite time, as he was able to enjoy all the local dirt track races. He made numerous friends at the track, including his friend and favorite driver, Gary Webb.
Gary is survived by his siblings, Carol (Bob) Broderson of Springfield, MO, Ron (Darrene) Welch of Davenport, IA, Don Welch of Hudson, FL, Sharon (John Wells) Wakeland of Savannah, GA, Joyce (Steve) Bettis of Bettendorf, IA, Dave (Lynn) Welch of Eldridge, IA, Roger (Deanna) Welch of Mechanicsville, IA, and Randy Welch of Davenport, IA; step-children, Ron “Bubby” Miller, Allison “Janie” Johnson, and Judy McGill all of Davenport, IA; numerous nieces, nephews, and step-grandchildren, including a special step-granddaughter, Amber (Terrez) Glover of Davenport, IA.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara; parents; brothers, Robert “Bob” Welch and Dennis Welch; sister-in-law, Victoria “Vicky” Welch; step-children, John Miller, Kimbra Miller, Penny Wyatt, Mary Rameriz, and Creighton Miller; and his long-time special friend of 21 years, Heidi Cruson.
Gary will be remembered for his love of racing and his deep devotion to family and friends. His laughter, stories, and steady presence will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
