Very sad to hear of David´s passing. Rest easy my cousin.
Although you lived `over the ditch´ we often thought about you and of course we spent much of our youth together.
Our love and thoughts with all the family.

David will be remembered by me fondly for his enthusiasm of our subject and for the support and advocacy of my own career when I was new to NZ and Christchurch in 2006. I worked with David on several projects and latterly inherited projects here in Queenstown through his recommendation. He is a great loss to the university and to our geotechnical fraternity. I have no doubt he will have been a wonderful grandfather. He will be missed.

Caring for David while he was at Elmswood was an absolute pleasure. His witty jokes and love for his family always made me smile. He is so dearly missed. May he rest in eternal peace.

In loving memory of a wonderful person. I will always think myself fortunate to have had the honour of being one of David's students.

I worked at UC with Dave for 23 years. I remember he was generous with his time, and full of humour. I also remember that he rarely threw out any paper, but stacked it around his office. His office door could not be easily opened after the earthquake of 4 September 2010, because all the books and papers had fallen and were waist deep on his office floor.
