Dawn Anliker Obituary

Dawn Michelle Anliker, 56, of Burlington, died Friday, Dec. 5, 2025, at the Klein Center in West Burlington.

Born on Oct. 15, 1969, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Dale and Mary (Swanson) Anliker.

Dawn was a Burlington High School graduate and a member of West Hill United Methodist Church.

Dawn is survived by her sisters, Stephanie (Roger) Olson of Central City, Nebraska, and Sonja Hollan of Katy, Texas; and her brother, Bruce (Bobbie) Anliker of Graham, North Carolina. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews, including Amy Merchant, Sara Newburn, John Olson, Kerstin Hollan, Melany Elmer and Bailey McCullock.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Dawn was a remarkable soul whose kindness, joy and light touched every person she met. She was truly one of a kind - the sort of person who never met a stranger.

Walking around town with her felt like walking beside a beloved local celebrity, because everyone knew her, everyone adored her, and everyone felt better after being in her presence.

She lived a life overflowing with connection and joy, especially in the moments spent with her parents. She loved being with them - going to choir practice with her mother, visiting car club shows with both parents, or heading out for a family dinner. Every outing was an adventure in Anliker's eyes, and her delight turned ordinary moments into treasured memories.

Creativity flowed naturally through her. Like her brother, she was an artist at heart and found joy in every project she touched. She loved coloring, painting and all forms of creative expression. And like her sisters, Dawn loved music. She had a gift for singing, and her spirited, unforgettable rendition of "Tomorrow" from the musical Annie could brighten even the gloomiest day.

She also had a competitive streak when it came to card games - especially UNO. Dawn played with enthusiasm and a playful spark. When she confidently placed that infamous Draw 4 card, she'd smile and say, "I'm sorry, I can't help it!" before breaking into her signature giggle - a sound so full of joy and mischief that no one could resist laughing along.

Dawn spent many wonderful years surrounded by friends she loved dearly at Hope Haven's Guegler House. She thrived there, embraced by a community that celebrated her just as she was. This past year, she made a second home at the Klein Center, where she was welcomed warmly and quickly became family. The staff and residents teased her lovingly - and she always teased them right back. Their care, humor and affection brought her comfort and connection during her final chapter.

Though our hearts ache, we are endlessly grateful for the beautiful life Dawn lived and the countless ways she brightened our world. Her laughter, her love and her radiant spirit will forever echo in our memories. Dawn was, and always will be, one of the greatest blessings of our lives.

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Lunning Chapel.

A memorial service will take place at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 9, 2026, at West Hill United Methodist Church with the Rev. Tamara Wirt officiating. A one-hour visitation will be held prior to the service at 10 a.m., where the family will meet with friends. Burial will be held in Memorial Park.

A memorial has been established in her memory for West Hill United Methodist Church or Community Action of Southeast Iowa.
