Eugene was in my ESOL class a few years ago. He was a hardcase student with a funny sense of humour. He sometimes had the other students in the class laughing. He was social and enjoyed being part of a group. Then he decided he wanted to return home to Russia. It was lovely to see him again and that he wanted to continue learning English with us at Hagley Learning Centre. He was in the class beside me, so I got to touch base with him sometimes, at morning tea, over the few short weeks he was with us. It was lovely to see him again but also very sad to see the effects that a stroke had had on his body and also his mind. He was quite sad and lonely at times. He said that he would love to see his daughter again and meet his grandson. Sadly, that will never happen. My thoughts are with Eugene, and my prayers are with his family and friends. Condolences from Sarah, his teacher and from the staff here at Hagley learning Centre. Roz
