Dear Trixie, Rae and Ian´s family. I was so sorry to learn through my sister Fay that Ian had passed away. I had a couple of beers with Ian in November 2019 at The Grand Hotel (where our family always stayed when visiting Akaroa). I will send a photo. I asked the owner how to find Ian and he called across the bar..."Ian, come over here and then said Mr Woodill, meet Mr Woodill". I called at Ian´s home in Takamatua on my return journey to Christchurch but he wasn´t home. I think he had gone to Chch. My earliest recollection is on one of our family visits and I can remember afternoon tea in your front lounge (converted on a subsequent trip to Radio Akaroa - they interviewed me!) and I remember going into your Dad´s butcher shop. Jill was there too. I can also remember Doris and Dave. Such fond memories of every trip to Akaroa and I´ve made many over the past 25+ years - 4 in the last 10 years as I always try to visit on trips from the U.K. where I´ve lived since 2007. Last trip I stayed at The Grand Hotel. It was for sale and I wished I could strike Lotto and buy it. I always visit Dad´s home Daisy Cottage up Woodill´s Road and I´ve walked Woodill´s Track A & B.
So pleased I did meet up with Ian on that last trip. Would love to contact you - my email is [email protected]
Lots and lots of love and sincerest condolences at your loss of Ian.

My husband and I didn't know Ian personally but we used to always see him out on the deck reading his paper when we went walking and used to say hi to him. We also saw him occasionally at his regular Saturday catchup with his mates at the Madeira. An icon of Takamatua
