Marylin BARNAY Obituary

BARNAY, Marylin Eva: 1941- 2024 It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Marylin Eva Barnay, of Penticton on September 28th, 2024, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was surrounded by her loved ones who will continue to honor her legacy by living their lives to the fullest. Marylin was the heart of our home and family, and a shining light in the community. She was predeceased by her parents Hugh (1992) and Eva Sheere (1996) Cleland. She is survived by her husband John Barnay (m. 1978); two sons John H.C. Barnay (Kristy) and Ian C.C. Barnay (Summer); two step daughters Colleen (George) Hein of Prince George, and Kathy (Ron) Dunn of Quesnel; her grandchildren Anelise, Kira, and Zoey Barnay; Miranda, Chelsea, Sarah, and Craig Hein; Levi, Laura, and Lucas Dunn; her brother Hugh J. C. Cleland (Carolyn) and his children Hugh and John Cleland and their children. Marylin was born in Penticton in 1941 and apart from several years in Vancouver, Toronto, and Oliver, spent most of her life in Penticton, which she loved and called home. She enjoyed being involved in the community and was an integral part. Her favorites being The Okanagan Symphony Society, Penticton Concert Band and St Saviour's Anglican Church (being the granddaughter of St. Saviour's first permanent minister 1907, Rev. John A and Mary Cleland) and the Historical Society. She was an inspiration and will be dearly missed. A service will be held at St. Saviour's Anglican Church (150 Orchard Ave.) in Penticton on Saturday, Nov 2nd at 11am. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the BC Cancer Foundation. As a child growing up on the orchard property of the Clelands in the `60´s and `70´s I spent many a day chatting with Marylin in the garden by the little pond. She was a kind person who gave a small girl her time and attention. She was a good friend to my parents Brian and Marj Daniels, and I´ll always remember her laughing with Mum on our back lawn over something or another. I´m so sorry for this news. Condolences to the entire family.
