Very sorry my wife Cheryl and myself just arrived back from overseas. We have only known Phil for the past 2 years at Bridge. A very likeable character, who we became friends with and looked forward to seeing him each week.
I had given him and Steve one of his partners at bridge, the affectionate name of Hero and Zero, as often their results depicted this.

Thinking of you all at this very sad time. I have such fond memories of Uncle Phil on the spud digger, cracking the whip while us kids threw rotten spuds at one another, doing his best to manage the chaos unfolding around him. Firm but fair, he was a true gentleman.
I remember the homemade go-kart he and Dad built, and the jet boating adventures in Lake Tekapo when we were kids. Rest in Peace Uncle Phil xx

Phil, you will be sadly missed. We knew you both as an inspirational, well liked tutor and staff colleague at Aoraki Polytechnic, and as a highly respected Director and player at the Timaru Bridge Club. Our condolences to Liz and family. Gavin and Angela Spence
