Dear Suzanne
You fought the hard battle, and gave the cancer one heck of a fight. You showed nothing but bravery and held your head high with dignity and humour, and still managed to put others first throughout your illness. You are an inspiration to all that new and loved you. You will be deeply missed and thought of always.
Lots of love your Big Sis

Mrs Newton was my year 7/8 teacher in 2014/2015 and truly shaped who I am as a person. She truly believed in me and my peers and the impact she had on our life was massive. Here´s a segment of my year 8 speech dedicated to Mrs newton: And last of all... Mrs Newton. Gosh I don't even know when to start... First of all, I apologise on behalf of the year 8´s for all the stress we have caused you during our time in Rangatahi. We probably haven't been the best class but what can you expect from a bunch of teenagers? You have believed in us, fought for us, and our rights, and if you were not our year 8 teacher, I don´t think that we would´ve had the privileges and wonderful experiences that we have been so lucky to have this year. You have run back and forth making sure that us students come first, and you gave us the most eventful, educational and fun camp we´ve ever had. It was definitely the biggest highlight for us, and was probably the event that took the most effort on your behalf to make happen. It´s amazing the difference one person can make and honestly, if you and Ms Meehan hadn´t introduced collaboration to us, I do not think we would be as prepared and ready for high school as we are now. You're, encouragement, unwavering belief and constant support have helped us to progress into young adults that are now ready to commence on a new journey at high school. I still remember at the start of year 7 how all of us were lined up outside of Rm 1 & 2 with the year 8 ´s all confused because we had no idea what was going on. We had no idea that it was the start of a journey we would embark on together, and that it would have such significance on our lives.
Because of that, we know what to expect next year and we know that we need to take responsibility for our own learning, and for the last two years, we have been practicing doing just that. Mrs Newton, I can see/imagine you sitting shaking your head in denial right now, but don´t deny it for a second because you have been unappreciated by a lot of us this year and you do not deserve that because you have been the best year 7 & 8 teacher we could´ve had. Thank you so much Mrs Newton, we all wish you good luck for the years to come and we can never repay you for everything that you have done for us.

Blessings to you all. I met Suzanne at an Alpha programme in 2022, I loved her quiet peaceful way she spoke of her cancer, which I am sure was not how she really felt. I felt close to her and the fact that we both loved shoes gave us a very special link and and understanding of how special a pair of shoes can be. May you be at Peace now that her fight has finished, and may she Rest in Peace in Heaven with all others who love shoes. She will be remembered in my Prayers. Pauline Cosgrove

Suzanne, You excelled in caring for others!, your passion for fairness, dedication to all facets of teaching and learning and social justice didn't go unnoticed. But your love
for your family makes your halo shine beyond reproach. Rest with the angels, in heavenly peace. Your work is done, with gratitude and heartfelt sadness.
