Dear Shiradeen and family,
I am a former colleague of Tony at NZTA/Waka Kotahi from when he joined us as a Technical Auditor. By the time Tony joined us, I had retired the first time, and was working as a part-timer, based in Wellington. consequently, we didn't see a lot of each other except for group meetings in Wellington.
We had a good team, and Tony took a full part in all our activities. Joining your funeral service on-line, I learnt a lot about Tony and his background that I had not known earlier. Yes, he did have a beautiful smile!
Between us, our overall team made a great contribution to the better maintenance of NZ's roading system I find I still run a critical eye over the roadside as I drive, as I go on to think, "Don't interfere, you have retired!" today's engineers have their own problems to deal with.
I'm glad Tony took on the statistical work of recording what work was done by councils. I had begun it in the days when there were well over 200 local councils. I looked at the statistical returns they put in each year that were being totally ignored by the system and began looking for ways to use this information to try and identify the good and bad performers. It all began by using hand calculations: computers eventually made that work a lot easier. Well done, Tony, for keeping our effort alive; after about the year 2000 it was yielding meaningful information that we could use.
Please accept my sympathy in your loss of Tony at such a young age. It would have been good for him to watch the progress of the next generation in your family, but that was not to be.
Yours sincerely,
Rob Merrifield.

Tony was a loved and respected colleague. I worked with him occasionally, in a variety of different roles, from the early 2010s until the present. I am shocked and saddened by his sudden passing. I can only imagine how hard this is hitting you who were much closer to him than me. Blessings and peace.

Dear Lange Family.
Please accept my deepest condolences on Tony´s passing.
I had the privilege of having Tony as my mentor. Having worked alongside Tony I saw the positive impact he made across the entire length and breadth of New Zealand and know that he will be sadly missed by many!
I am greatly saddened that Tony is no longer with us, but also acutely aware and thankful for the time he has had with us.
Thank you for sharing Tony with us!

Oh Sherideen, how saddened and sorry I am for you and the boys. Know that you all have been in my thoughts and prayers.
I recall how special it was that you and Tony selected your wedding date in conjunction with my visit making it the only family wedding that I've ever had the honor of attending.
Sending love and hugs
