Robert Atherton Obituary

On November 2, 2025, Robert William Atherton took his last breath on earth and his first breath in heaven.

Born January 27, 1946, in Victoria, BC, Bob spent his early years on Pender Island before returning to the city he called home. A proud Vic High graduate, he built a long and respected career as a dental technician and later began Precision Arts Dental Laboratory, where he was admired for his craftsmanship, integrity, and tireless work ethic.

Bob loved the outdoors and found peace in God's creation-whether fishing, hiking, or sitting quietly by the ocean. He also had a deep appreciation for music and theatre.

Most of all, Bob's life was shaped by his faith. He loved the Lord deeply and served faithfully-teaching Sunday school at Coastline Church, and serving on the board of Youth for Christ. His life reflected humility, kindness, and devotion to God and others.

Predeceased by his first wife Corrie, Bob leaves behind his beloved daughters, Debbie (Gord) and Cindy (Paul); grandchildren, Cortlin, Bailey, Shaylin, Ella, and Oliver; and great-grandson, Roman.

He is also lovingly remembered by his two brothers Tom and Jerry Atherton as well as his dear wife, Joan, whose love brought so much joy to his final years.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to the oncology and palliative care teams at Royal Jubilee Hospital for their extraordinary care and compassion.

A celebration of Bobs life will take place at Coastline Church in Victoria on Friday, November 21st at 1:00PM.

Forever loved, deeply missed, and now at home with his Savior.

I am a cousin to Bobby Atherton, my Dad was a step-brother to Bobby´s Dad. I did not know that Bobby was a Christian until I read his obituary just this moment...our other cousin Janet (Harrison) told me tonight of Bobby´s passing....I too am a believer, and reading his obituary I have the hope of meeting Bobby in heaven...Bobby, Janet and I were born in the same year...I have lovely memories of Aunty Julie, and Aunty Julie´s parents, Mr and Mrs Ménard.....

Bob was a wonderful man and such a gentleman i met him about 10 years ago at my grandsons baseball game. Bob and Joan had started seeing each other and we had become friends right away. Bob and my husband Peter had become good friends, then my husband was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer. Bob was there for Peter at his bedside when he was in the hospital every chance he got. One time when i was with Peter he said Bob is coming to see me today, i said oh i dont think so then the door opens and in walks Bob and Peter said see i told you Bob was coming in. I will never forget Bob and his kindness he showed to Peter and myself he would come to the house and tell me to go for a walk. I could not have gotten through Peters illness without Bobs kindness. He really was a godsend you will be missed so much by everyone who knew you. Condolences to his wife Joan and his 2 daughters Debbie and Cindy and their families. R.I.P my dear friend, Goodbyes are not forever, Goodbyes are not the end, They simply mean we will miss you, Until we meet again. Goodnight Bob sleep tight.

Bob was an extremely kindhearted, wonderful person. He was someone of high integrity, kindness and a strong faith. Bob was someone who we admired and respected. A role model who did his best to live out his faith every day. Someone you hoped to be like and hoped your sons turned out to be like. He was my Sunday school teacher, my leader at the church boys club and our softball coach. He mc´d our wedding. He was Heidi´s employer for 7 years at the Lab. He was a kind and considerate boss and an extremely hard worker which Heidi witnessed first hand. There´s so much more we could say, we have wonderful memories of Bob and are grateful he was in our lives. We rejoice that he´s now in a much better place. Prayers and sympathies to his family. Time heals all wounds.

Dear Joan, Debbie, Cindy, and Family, I had the great privilege of knowing Bob through my dear friend, Joan. He was always so kind, caring, and genuine, and I so admired the love and devotion that Joan and Bob showed towards each other, each and every time we were together. Please know my thoughts are prayers are with your entire family at this most difficult time. Arms around you all.

Debbie - So sorry to read of your dad's passing. What a great man! My condolences to you and all of your family.

I think I first got to know Bob through GT and us youth going up to your place on the hill in Wedgewood Estates but really got to know him through my time with YFC.

Both he and your mom were amazing people and great supporters. Bob always had time to chat and ask how things were. He was always so full of life and energy.

I hope that during his Celebration of Life your heart gets filled with so many stories of his great and faithful journey and the impact that he had on others.

Your dad was one of the very good ones!
