Funeral services celebrating the life of Janice Odom Savage, age 72, will be held Monday, February 9, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Culbertson Baptist Church in the D’Arbonne community, with Rev. Kelly Coleman and Rev. Bubba Walsworth officiating. Interment will follow at Culbertson Baptist Church Cemetery under the direction of Farrar Funeral Home.
Janice was born on May 22, 1953, in Bernice, Louisiana, and passed peacefully from this life on February 6, 2026, at her home in D’Arbonne.
A graduate of Louisiana Tech University, Janice was a born leader who saw the best in every person she crossed paths with in life. She was a second-grade teacher at Farmerville Elementary School for 28 years, and every student she encountered left with a better outlook on life than when they arrived. She gently pushed each student to be the best they could be every day, and they always remembered “Mrs. Savage.”
After her years at FES, Janice went on to be an Early Childhood Specialist with Even Start Developmental Center in Lincoln Parish. Though she retired, she never stopped teaching and later became a Teacher Coach with JBHM, helping develop and mold young teachers in their profession.
Her time away from the classroom still found Janice teaching, but at her church. Whether through Vacation Bible School, children’s ministry, or arts and crafts, Janice was always leading and teaching.
Janice is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, Lucien Savage of Farmerville; her daughter, Amy Walsworth, and husband David (Bubba) of Quitman; her beautiful grandchildren, Dakota, Mariah Dunn (Devon), Gabe, Emma, and Chloe Walsworth; and her great-grandchildren, Ellie Jo, Evie, and Emma Dunn, all of Quitman. Janice is also survived by brothers- and sisters-in-law, Larry and Bobbie Savage, and Stacey and Susan Savage.
She was preceded in death by her father, James “Pete” Odom; her mother, Dortha Jo Odom; her father-in-law, John Tom Savage; her mother-in-law, Floye Savage; and her sister, Pam Jones.
Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 8, 2026, at Farrar Funeral Home.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the many family members and friends who have supported Janice and the family during the last six months of her life. A very special thank you to the Retired Teachers of Union Parish, Culbertson Baptist Church, and all of her FES friends and co-workers who made our lady feel loved. Not a day went by that Janice didn’t receive a call, text, or card…what a blessing!
