Arthur Allan "Allan" AVERIS

Arthur AVERIS Obituary

'Old Al' has crossed the bar and gone to be with his skipper. Surrounded by his loving family, Al passed peacefully on February 4, 2026, at Dunedin Hospital, as the result of an accident. Dearly loved husband and best mate of the late Pat. Treasured Dad and father-in-law of Robyn and Tony Lee (Christchurch); Lynda and Gerald Taylor (Irwell); Wendy and Dayle McDrury (North Loburn). Much loved granddad of Jessica and Rebecca; Cameron and Ben; and their partners Denver, Zac and Natalija. Loved brother of the late Noeleen and Ken McEwing (Timaru); Judy and John Avery (Kaiapoi) and Maureen and John Haines (Tauranga). Special thanks to the staff at Dunedin Hospital Southern Critical Care Unit and Ward 8C for their outstanding care and support to us all. A service to celebrate Allan's life will be held at St Stephen's Church, Peel Forest, on Thursday, February 12, at 11.00am. This will be followed by Al's last vintage rally to the Arundel Cemetery. Tractors and vintage vehicles are welcome to join us on this journey. In lieu of flowers, donations to Blind Low Vision NZ would be appreciated and may be left at the service. Messages to The Averis Family, 338 The Lake Road, RD 3, Leeston 7683.

Deeply sorry to hear the passing of our Allan. My sympathy goes out to his wider family. I first met Al when we were selected for the 1960/61 expedition to Raoul Isld. I was later his best man at his wedding in Timaru. We have been in touch ever since. RIP my friend RIP..

Dear Robyn, Lynda and Wendy ... so very sad to hear of your father's recent passing ... I last saw him in one of his many happy places ... at his home in Peel Forest ... making his legendary scones ... I will always remember his kindness to Ross and I on that day when we'd been soaked to the skin packing up our campsite up down the road ... then revived by Allan's hot tea and scones ... kindest regards always Angela and Ross

Lynda, Gerald and the Averis family. We were saddened to hear of Alan´s recent passing. It was always lovely to see Alan with all his family around him at the Annual Mt Cook SCVCC Rally. Last year was even more special seeing one of Alan´s vintage cars being driven by his granddaughter, and also listening with great enjoyment to Alan reminiscing about the past 70 years of previous rally history. A wonderful legend lost.
Kindest Regards,
