Shirley A. (Jenkins) Ackerman, 93, residing in Sandusky, passed away Thursday, August 28, 2025, at Parkvue Healthcare Center after a brief illness.
Shirley was born July 15, 1932, in Sandusky, to the late Dayton and Thelma (Smith) Jenkins.
Shirley was a member of Holy Angels Catholic Church and St. Mary's Catholic Church and American Legion Post No. 83. In her spare time, she enjoyed crocheting blankets for the military, needlepoint, word searches, puzzles and crafts.
Shirley is survived by her daughter, Sandra (Joel) Heiberger; and her son, Michael Ackerman. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Rebecca (Tom) Pruitt, Edward Ackerman, Joseph (Brook) Ackerman, Megan Ackerman (William White), Joshua (Bri) Ackerman, Valerie (Bradley) Joseph and Devin Heiberger; several great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
In addition to her parents, Shirley is preceded in death by her husband, Edward Ackerman; son, Eric Ackerman; daughter, Karen Smercina; granddaughter, Julie Fischer; grandson, Eric Ackerman Jr.; her siblings, Audrey (Homer) McPeek, Janet Jenkins, and two brothers in infancy.
Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, September 2, 2025, at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky. Prayers will be recited at 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home Wednesday, September 3, 2025, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 429 Central Ave. Sandusky, with Father Monte Hoyles presiding. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Sandusky.
