My Dad (Lyn Buttar) went to Heaven in January 2019 aged 78 yrs. He used to tell us kids and his grandkids stories about his best mate Bruce Leckie from back in the 1940´s and 50´s when he was growing up on the Buttar family farm in Dunedin. He and Bruce reconnected approx 15 years ago for one more fly fishing trip to the central North Island. Dad (Lyn) regarded Bruce as the best fly fisherman he´d ever seen in all of his time spent on the rivers and a very humble man with a ton of resilience and quiet determination and bucketloads of skills. Thanks Bruce for your friendship to our Dad. Mark Buttar

Bruce, known to the Taranaki rural folk as the professional possum trapper who had worked the length and breath of the country, still working into his 80's and eschewing all mod cons. But much, much more. Dedicated family man, skilled oil painter, philosopher, hard core conservationist and life long student and teacher. It has been a pleasure for us to know you and to be able to tap into your skill and experience and be inspired.
