Anita Healey Obituary

Anita W. Healey, longtime resident of Flossmoor and former three-term village president of Olympia Fields, passed away on November 11. She was 94.

Anita was born September 22, 1931, to the late Mae (née Galvin) and Raymond Williams, the youngest of three. Her sister, Helen, and brother, Raymond, precede her. She attended Loretto High School and graduated from Mundelein College. She taught in the Chicago schools for several years before meeting and marrying her husband, Thomas J. Healey Sr., and moving to the south suburbs.

A proud, self-proclaimed domestic engineer, Anita was a stay-at-home mom until her gift of service to those outside her home was uncovered. Her candidacy in 1977 for Olympia Fields Village Board was her only unsuccessful run for office. She was elected village trustee in 1979 and then was elected to three terms as president of the village. She worked hard, served her community, and was a strong and faithful presence to all who knew her.

In addition to the village, Anita was active in the League of Women Voters, the Olympia Fields Women’s Club, the Tamarac Board, Infant Jesus of Prague parish, and the South Suburban Mayors and Managers Association. She enjoyed bridge, playing and watching tennis, spending time with family and her many friends, and experiencing Lake Michigan sunsets with her family during their annual summer vacation in Stevensville, Michigan.

She was active and proudly lived independently until her last weeks of life. She will be deeply missed by her family, including her children: Mary Helen, Thomas John Jr., Patrick Raymond, Catherine Frances (Alan) Snedeker, and Ann Brigid (William) Bowen. She was a cherished Grandma H to Kate Mae Bowen, Sean Patrick Healey, Cara Mae Snedeker and William Thomas Snedeker. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brother and sister.

Visitation will be held at Tews-Ryan Funeral Home, 18230 Dixie Highway, in Homewood, on Friday, November 28 from 4 to 7 pm. A Catholic mass will be held at St. Veronica’s Parish in Flossmoor on Saturday, November 29, at 10 am, followed by a private ceremony at Holy Sepulchre Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in her memory may be made in Anita's name to the American Cancer Society. For additional information contact tews-ryanfh.com or call 708-798-5300.

Dear Healey family,
