Mrs. Betty Jean Hunt Johnson, 81, widow of John Calhoun “Jackie” Johnson, Jr., of Mullins, passed away after an extended illness while at Senior Care of Marion, during the late evening of Sunday, September 22, 2024.
Betty Jean was born on October 27, 1942, in Latta, South Carolina, a daughter of the late Frank Hunt and the late Bertha Miller Hunt. Betty Jean was a loving mother and grandmother; she had worked with Supreme Lighting in Mullins for several years. Following her stint at Supreme, Ms. Betty Jean served as a Pole Worker with Marion County during elections and volunteered at the Marion County Medical Center. Betty Jean loved going to yard sales and participating in them as well. She would use her love of working in her flower beds at the yards sales too. She would have a variety of flowers and bulbs she would offer the interested customers. Mrs. Johnson also loved to fish, she really enjoyed going fishing in the past years while she was able. She truly loved spending time in Ocean Isle Beach, this was her happy place where she enjoyed the sun and the salt air. Ms. Betty Jean was an avid Western watcher, loving spending a lazy day in front of the television watching her favorite cowboys save the day.
Mrs. Johnson is survived in death by her children: her son, John Calhoun “Johnny” Johnson, III, and his wife Debbie, of Longs; and her daughter, Sherry Reed, and her husband Scott, of Murrells Inlet; her grandchildren: Tyler Reed, Travis Reed, Olivia Reed, Haileigh Moreland, and Jordan Moreland. And her two sisters: Eunice Campbell and her husband, Shelton, of Latta, and Annie Ruth Brigman and her husband, Larry, of Dillon.
Mrs. Johnson was predeceased by a sister, Rachel Campbell, and three brothers: Gene Hunt, Carlisle Miller, and William Hunt.
The family will hold a graveside service for Ms. Betty Jean in Cedardale Cemetery on Thursday, September 26 at 2:00 P.M., with the Reverend Teddy Rabon officiating. The family will speak with attendees following the service there in the cemetery. Cox-Collins Funeral Home is assisting the family during this time.
The family would like to extend a special “Thank You” to Patriot Hospice for their love and care they provided Mrs. Johnson during their time together.

Johnny & Sherry I'm so sorry to hear of her passing. She never complained about her health to me. I enjoyed seeing her uptown with her flowers and I have several in my yard from her. I'll always cherish them.

Ms Betty was a special lady who graced those she met with a smile. She was blessed with a green thumb that could make all things grow beautifully. She will be missed. May the Lord comfort and minister to her family and friends.

Betty and I worked together years ago at SLI, she was witty and direct. Betty always looked so nice from head to toe. I know she will be missed by all that knew her. May you find comfort and peace in the days and weeks ahead.
