Billy Gene Johnson Sr., went to be with Jesus on March 10, 2025. Billy was born on February 3, 1941, to Hattie Watson and Lewis Johnson in Robstown, Texas.
He and his family moved to Seymour, Texas and later to Midland in 1951, where he made his home. He attended Carver Junior Senior High School and enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1960 and served for three years. He married his wife of 60 years, Verna Mae Ransom, in 1965. He affectionately called her "Woman."
Billy was a family man and a hard worker, working more than 30 plus years with the Midland Independent School District and finishing his work career as a truck driver. Upon his retirement, he found joy in his family, his soda, and his candy. He loved telling stories, fishing, and watching old TV shows. He was a lifelong gardener, an amateur musician, loved Blues music and could do just about anything with his hands. He took great pride and joy in his five children, ten grandchildren, and eleven great grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife Verna, five children Margaret Lewis (Ervin), Lewis Earl Johnson (Jennifer), Carlton Johnson (Melissa), Billy Gene Johnson Jr. (Lisa), and Sharon Johnson (Mill Creek, WA).
He is preceded in death by his mother Hattie Jack, stepfather Eddie Jack, brothers Jessie Fennell and Jerry Hill, daughter Trisha Ann Johnson, and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
