Curtis Jones Obituary

It is with deep love and gratitude that we announce the passing of our beloved father, Curtis Ducloux Jones, who passed away on March 13, 2025, at the age of 90.

Born in Ogden, Utah, on December 8, 1933, to Eugene and Florence Jones, Curtis was one of six siblings: Margret, Eugene, Janet, Florence (Jeri), and Duke. At the age of 10, his family moved to Layton, Utah, where he attended Davis High School and excelled in track and field, football, and theater. Throughout his youth, Curtis admired his older brother Gene, a paratrooper during World War II, who was his boyhood hero.

At the age of 14, Curtis met Bonnie Jean Flint, the love of his life. Though she was just 12 at the time, their connection was instant, and their love story blossomed over the years. From their teenage years to their marriage on December 8, 1955, they were inseparable. Curtis often said that Bonnie was his “cowgirl sweetheart,” and their bond was one of deep devotion and friendship. Their love remained a constant source of strength throughout their 55 years together, they were usually holding hands whenever together. Even after Bonnie passed in April 2012, Curtis never stopped missing her. It was as if half of his heart went with her, but his love for her remained alive in every word he spoke and every memory they shared.

Curtis and Bonnie raised six sons: Jeffery (Julie), Charles (Kim), Curtis (Marci), Tony (Tresa), Jim Lee (Pattie), and Jonathan (Beverlee). Together, they were blessed with 16 grandchildren. Curtis loved his family deeply and took great pride in seeing his sons raise their own children, passing down his values of love, hard work, and the importance of family.

Throughout his life, Curtis had many careers, but it was his hard work, entrepreneurial spirit, and strong character that defined him. He worked at Hill AFB, became a successful real estate broker, ran a thriving waste management business, and was a dedicated farmer and rancher in Morgan, Utah. His work ethic was matched only by his passion for life and his boundless energy.

A true cowboy at heart, Curtis was a seasoned rodeo participant, engaging in bull riding, bronc riding, roping, and bulldogging. His love for horses led him to horse racing and chariot racing in his later years. Horses were his constant companions, and if it had been up to Curtis, he would have spent his entire life on horseback, following the call of the open range.

Curtis was a lover of the outdoors, enjoying hunting and fishing, and frequently taking his family on pack trips into the wilds of the Uintahs and Wind Rivers. He passed down his knowledge of the land and his love for adventure to his children and grandchildren, often teaching them to play his favorite card game, Grandpa Wins, sitting around a campfire.

He was also a passionate coach, leading his Little League football teams to several mini-bowl championships. Curtis cherished the memories of the young players he coached and remained in touch with many of them throughout his life.

What made Curtis truly special, however, was his remarkable sense of humor and infectious laugh. He had a way of finding joy in the simplest moments and could always be counted on to tell a funny story or crack a joke. Even in his later years, Curtis’s quick wit and playful nature never left him. He had a knack for making everyone around him laugh, and even when his health declined, he spent his days flirting with the nurses at the Family Tree, keeping their spirits high with his cheeky humor and charm. And telling stories and sharing orange sticks with his two youngest grandchildren Jack and Grace.

Curtis was known for his kindness, generosity, and unwavering love for his family. He was a true friend to all who knew him, and his presence will be deeply missed.

The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to the Family Tree in Morgan, KB Platt, Crystal Batty, and A+ Hospice for their compassionate care in the final years of Curtis’s life. Special thanks go to Mickie Pate, who became like family and went above and beyond for Curtis during his time of need.

Thank you to Kent and Cindy Carter for hosting a celebration of life that will be held 5-8 Friday, March 21, at their Horse Barn in Hardscrabble (810 Hardscrabble Road Morgan, UT 84050). A wagon-drawn funeral procession will lead to a graveside ceremony at South Morgan Cemetery on Saturday, March 22, at 10:30 a.m.

In honor of Curtis' legacy, we invite all who knew him to join us in celebrating his life—a life full of adventure, love, laughter, and cherished memories.

Curt was one in a million. He shared his boys with my late husband Jan Smith as some of the finest football ball players
at Morgan High School. I’m truly sorry for your family’s loss and my deepest sympathies to you all at this time. I’m sorry I won’t be able to make the services for Curt because I’m out of state. But I love all you boys who are now great men.♥
