Deacon Robert Love Obituary

Robert Lee Love, affectionately known as “Bobby,” was born on June 18, 1935, and entered eternal rest on September 17, 2025.

In December of 1959, Bobby met the love of his life, Sarah Mae Brown. Their inseparable bond blossomed into marriage on May 9, 1964, and together they shared 61 beautiful years. In March of 1965, their joy multiplied with the birth of their beloved daughter, Dorothy.

Bobby was a man who found joy in life’s simple pleasures. A passionate sports fan, he especially loved baseball and proudly rooted for the New York Mets. In his younger years, he played on a community baseball team and also enjoyed bowling and horse racing. His career path led him to work as a supervisor in several garages, where his hard work, leadership, and humor created lifelong friendships that he deeply cherished.

One of his greatest blessings arrived in 1996 with the birth of his granddaughter, Brianna. The bond between Bobby and Brianna was extraordinary—filled with love, laughter, and countless special moments. She was truly his pride and joy.

Faith was central to Bobby’s life. Since 1996, he was a devoted member of New Mount Zion Baptist Church of Harlem, New York, where he faithfully served as both a Deacon and Trustee. His service and gentle spirit touched the lives of all who knew him, leaving an indelible mark on his church family and community.

Bobby was preceded in death by his parents, Corinda and Walter Love Sr.; his brothers, Raymond Smaugh and John Love; and his sister-in-law, Dorothy Bartley.

He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Sarah Love; his devoted daughter, Dorothy Love; his treasured granddaughter, Brianna Preyear (Reggie); his nephew, Steven Love (Mame’Yaa); his beloved God-children; and a host of extended family, church family, coworkers, neighbors, and dear friends who will miss him greatly.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Thursday, September 25, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Wayland Baptist Church, 3200 Garrison Blvd, Baltimore, MD 21216. Interment will follow immediately after the service.

“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day.” – 2 Timothy 4:7-8
