Fred Scott Carlton, 79, of Cape Fair, Missouri, passed away peacefully on October 19, 2025 in the comfort of his home surrounded by loved ones.
He was born in Boynton Beach, Florida, on August 16,1946, and grew up in Kansas City. Born under the surname Dickx, he was later adopted and became known as Fred Scott Carlton.
Scott proudly served his country in the United States Navy from March 1965 through 1971, spending four of those years as a radio operator. After his military service, he pursued higher education, earning a degree in real estate and interior design. He went on to enjoy a long and successful career as a real estate broker.
On June 14, 2000, Scott married the love of his life, Gellet Joiner, and the two shared twenty-five beautiful years together. Scott dedicated his life to his faith as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses and was an active, devoted member of his congregation. He also carried with him the values of his youth as a proud Eagle Scout.
Scott is survived by his beloved wife, Gellet Joiner Carlton; children Alex Wolf and his wife Regina, Denna Guilbault and her husband Norman, and Justin Joiner and his wife Stacey; and seven cherished grandchildren.
Scott stepped into Justin’s life as a father figure when he was young and guided him into adulthood with patience, humor, and love. His grandchildren brought him immense joy, and he took pride in watching them grow and thrive. To many in his family, Scott was a steady source of wisdom and support—a man who loved deeply and lived with purpose.
About fifteen years ago, Scott endured a series of strokes that greatly affected his health, yet his spirit remained unshaken. His determination to explore, learn, and enjoy life never waned, even through physical challenges.
Those who knew Scott remember his unwavering faith, his devotion to his family, and his gentle kindness. His family is especially grateful for the many years he lovingly cared for Gellet before his illness, ensuring she felt supported and cherished every day.
A viewing will be held from 3-5 p.m. on Wednesday, October 22, 2025 at Stumpff Funeral Chapel, 214 N Commerce Street in Crane, Missouri, with arrangements under the care of Stumpff Funeral Home.
Scott’s family will forever treasure the love, strength, and faith he shared so freely. His memory lives on in the lives of everyone he touched.
