George Herrmann Obituary

With heavy hearts, we share the news of the passing of George August Herrmann on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, at the age of 95 years.

George was born in St. Louis, Missouri on June 3, 1930, to Emil and Katherine Herrmann.

He married Joanne on February 24, 1950.  George and Joanne lovingly welcomed three children, Kathryn Ann, Karen Lee, and Thomas William.

George delighted in all electronic and mechanical things - flashlights, televisions, VCRs, radios, cameras, lawn mowers, and clocks.  If you had one that was broken… he could fix it; and if you did not have one, he had one to give you.

On January 16, 1980, George married Marie.  Together they enjoyed garage sales and thrift shopping.  More adventures found them while traveling throughout the United States, Canada, and Mexico to visit family and friends.  He was also very fond of trips to Menard’s.

George worked for Hussmann Corporation as an electrician for over 40 years before retiring in 1993.

George really appreciated time in his yard.  He had flower beds, fruit and vegetable gardens, and so many birdhouses over the years.

One of George’s favorites was food, in particular ice cream and anything sweet.  Cookies, cakes, pie, candies, and even black licorice.  Always a little sauce on this and a little spice to that, he never refused a little sliver of dessert.  If no dessert, beer and pretzels warmed his heart.

George was a very caring, loyal, and gentle soul who will be missed.

George is survived by his three children, Kathy Brasher, Karen Grubb, Tom Herrmann (Linda) and a son through marriage, Roy Marler (Debbie). He has ten grandchildren, Ed Marler (Kelly), Tim Brasher (Vanezza), Matt Herrmann (Isil), Joanie Grill (John), David Kyle Grubb (Crystal), Becky Rogers (Sean), Nick Marler (Tara), Mike Brasher (Weslie Childress), Geoff Marler (Margo), and Tommy Herrmann (Bri Flaherty).  19 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild also survive him along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and neighbors.

Preceded in death by his parents, Emil and Katherine (Kurtzeborn) Herrmann, his wife and mother of his children, Joanne (Knipe) Herrmann, his brother Robert Herrmann and sister-in-law, Marie Herrmann, sons-in-law, Ron Brasher and Jim Grubb, and his wife of 45 years, A. Marie (Stephens) Herrmann.
