Jesus “Chuy” Velasquez, age 65, passed away on Friday, April 4, 2025.
Born on February 13, 1960, in Cotulla, Texas, Chuy was the youngest of eight children. He cherished time with his family, had a deep love for Tejano music, and enjoyed sharing a beer with friends. Known for his quick wit and joyful spirit, Chuy spent his life making people laugh, loving his family deeply, and proudly running the Velasquez Bar—a beloved family business passed down from his parents.
On May 28, 1977, Chuy married the love of his life, Norma Mendoza, at the American Legion in Cotulla. The two were inseparable—true soulmates. Together they raised two children, Norma (Martin) and Jesus Jr (Cassandra), who blessed them with eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, with more on the way.
Chuy will be remembered as a man who brought light and laughter wherever he went. No matter the circumstance, he always had a joke to lift the spirits of those around him. His legacy of joy, love, and community will live on through his family and the Velasquez Bar.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, at Peters Funeral Home from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will take place on Thursday, April 10, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Cotulla East Cemetery.
