Marjorie Purcell Obituary

Marjorie Lynn Purcell, 82, of Taylor, Texas went to be with Jesus on Sunday, October 20, 2024.

Lynn was born on March 28, 1942 in Taylor to Welton and Marietta House.  She had the privilege of growing up in a small-town community along with her older brother Welton Jr.  She graduated from Taylor High School in 1960. Her senior class ring is now on display in the Duck Room Museum, “Once a Duck, always a Duck!”. Lynn married Tim Purcell on September 13, 1976.  They soon moved into Lynn’s beautiful childhood home on Meadow Lane where they hosted many gatherings for family and friends over the years. Lynn was an avid bridge player and spent many years attending Bible Study Fellowship.

Lynn loved working and managing her family-owned business, House Jewelry, for many years.  She took pride in her knowledge of fine gemstones and her salesmanship skills.  Upon her retirement from the jewelry business, she found her true passion of working with students with disabilities for the Taylor ISD.  She truly loved “her kids” and spent many a weekend helping out with Special Olympics.

Lynn was proceeded in death by parents, Marietta and Welton House Sr. and her beloved husband Tim Purcell.  She is survived by her brother, Welton House Jr. and his wife Lorrain; four sister-in-law’s, Jan Bartlett; Wanda (Paul) Roberts ; Sue (Harry) Nicholson; and Pam (Clay) Fuller; and thirty-four nieces and nephews; and many life-long friends.

A special heartfelt thank you to the S.P.J.S.T. Skilled Nursing & Rehabilitation Center staff who became her family during the last five years and the team of Gentiva Hospice who also touched her life this past year.

Services will take place Friday, December 27, 2024 at 2:00 PM at the S.P.J.S.T. Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Lynn was such a good friend to me. We worked together for several years at the Taylor High School in Life Skills. Not only were we co-workers but we were good friends outside the school. Our little group of friends were Bonnie Bailey, Liz DelaTorre, Lynn and myself. We spent many occasions eating out, celebrating birthdays, celebrating Christmas and many other times just being together. Some of our best times were rooming together when we went to the State Special Olympic games with our athletes in Arlington, San Antonio, even Houston. We would laugh and laugh at our silly stories. Lynn many times would see me as a sister along with Bonnie and Liz. I will miss her friendship so much. I love you Lynn. Say hello to my Stacy.

I am so sad to hear of Lynn's passing. I worked for her at House Jewelry. She was an amazing lady, and she and Tim were a blessing to me. I love you Lynn.
