Mary Lewis Lober Auchincloss of Strafford, PA, passed away on October 26, 2024. She was born on December 2, 1941 and was 82 years old.
In her youth, she successfully showed dahlias with her father at the Philadelphia Flower Show and won many ribbons. Gardening remained a hobby throughout her life. Mary was educated at The Booth School and The Baldwin School (Class of 1959) where she was known as an avid reader.
She met her future husband, Charlie Auchincloss, at the Friday night dances at the Merion Cricket Club as a teenager. The couple married in Elkton, MD, at the Little Wedding Chapel in August of 1964. Together they painstakingly restored a historic bank barn. A mutual affinity for antiques led them to open Louella Antiques in Wayne. After the closing of the shop. Mary was a homemaker and worked in the healthcare field. She was employed by Surrey Services for Seniors for many years and received the Governor’s 2002 Silver & Gold Award in the caretaking category. In recent years, she devoted loving attention to her cats often taking in those who were not adoptable and in need of extra medical care.
Mary is predeceased by her parents, John Crozer Lober and Sarah Brooke Lewis Jack Lober and also her former husband Charles C. Auchincloss, II. She is survived by her brother, William D. Lober, her daughter, Eugenia W. Auchincloss (John Larrimore) and her son, Charles C. Auchincloss, III as well as a grandson, Gavin C. Larrimore.

my sympathy to the family - I was Mary's tenant for 5 years in the 90s. I was able to help her care for her cats since then until 2023 when health issues of my own made me stop. Her love for her cats was very obvious. She was a caring, determined woman. I am sorry I did not know of her passing before today.
