Mary Steele Obituary

Mary Helen Steele passed peacefully at home with her loving family and her caretaker Yvonne by her side on November 27, 2024, after a long battle with dementia.  Mary was born on January 3, 1939, in Glen Falls, New York to her loving parents Loren and Katherine Swears (Abare). Mary graduated from South Glens Falls High School in 1956, following her graduation she attended and graduated from Nathan Littauer Hospital School of Nursing, in Gloversville, NY. Once she passed her Registered Nursing Board Exam, she accepted a position at Albany Medical Center working in the Oncology department. In 1961 she accepted a position in the operating room at Glens Falls Hospital in NY.  After being promoted to lead nurse, she continued her career in that position until she retired in 1995. Mary and her late husband of 65 years, Cliff, moved to Avon Park, Florida in 1995, found a home and made many friends. She was a long-term member of the River Greens golf course and the Resurrection Lutheran Church. She adored, and was adored by her grandchildren, family and friends. 

Mary is Survived by her daughter; Tanya Marks, Son in law: Randy Marks of Saratoga Springs, NY grandchildren; Brandon and Corey Brown of Gansevoort, NY, Sisters; Joan Gates and Lorraine Jones of Gansevoort, NY, and Brother Almon Loren Swears of Gansevoort, NY. 

She is Preceded in passing by her beloved husband Cliff and her parents; Loren and Katherine Swears.

Interment of Mary and Cliff will take place at Saratoga National Cemetery on January 27, 2025, at 1:00 P.M. The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to Good Shepherd Hospice House and their caring staff for their support, assistance and kindness in these difficult times.
