Mildred Butler Obituary

Mildred Martin Butler

July 26, 1928 – November 12, 2015

Our loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, Mildred Imogene Martin Butler, (87) passed away peacefully, Thursday, November 12, 2015.  She has returned to the loving arms of her heavenly father and her husband, best friend, Ralph Stanford Butler.

Mildred was born on July 26, 1928 in Gaffney, South Carolina to Manasses Clarence Ardie Martin and Annie Ola Whitesides.  She was the fourth out of six children.  She graduated from Gaffney High School in 1946.

On November 16, 1946, Ralph and Mildred were married in Gaffney, SC.  They traveled to Utah for their honeymoon and got married in the Salt Lake Temple on November 22, 1946.  They had six children during their 65 years of marriage, Stan (Linda), Hugh (Marsha), Theresa Johnson (Val), Daniel (Pauline), Thomas and Timothy Butler.  Mildred and Ralph settled down in Layton, Utah after their 22 year career with the United States Air Force.

Mildred loved her family, friends and was an active member in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.  She was a real people person who always took time to share her wisdom.  Most people will remember her interesting southern sayings.  She enjoyed her grandchildren, great grandchildren, cooking and writing.  Her favorite time of month was the Out-To-Lunch-Bunch.  She loved her good friends and neighbors.

Mildred is survived by her six children, 20 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren, her sister, Mary Ann Golightly, (Eldon), and brother, Don Martin.

Mildred is preceded in death by her husband, parents, brothers Gene, Kenneth and Leon Martin, daughter-in-law, Pauline Butler and great grandson, Jacob L Butler.

Special thanks to Inspiration Hospice and the great team of people they have working for them.  Words cannot express how much this team meant to us:  Fred, Dan, Steve, Silvana and our angel on earth Oleana Price.   We would also like to thank the members of the Clearfield 12th Ward and Forest Hills Ward in Layton for all of their kindness during Mildred's stay in Clearfield.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 21, 2015 at 2 p.m. at Lindquist's Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road.  Friends may visit family Saturday from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at the mortuary.  Interment, Lindquist's Memorial Park at Layton, 1867 No. Fairfield Road.
