Modesta Valdellon Obituary


Modesta Pomer Valdellon passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 8, 2017 at her home surrounded by her loving family at the age of 81.


Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation on Friday, August 11th from 1-3 PM (prayer service will be offered at 2 PM) and 6-9 PM (prayer service will be offered at 8 PM) at the Paul Ippolito Summit Memorial, 7 Summit Ave, Summit, NJ. The Funeral will be held on Saturday, August 12th beginning at the funeral home at 8 AM with the funeral mass to be celebrated at 9 AM at Corpus Christi Parish, 234 Southern Blvd, Chatham, NJ.  Entombment will follow at Gate of Heaven Mausoleum, East Hanover, NJ. Modesta was born in Balanga, Bataan Philippines on February 24, 1936 to Elena (nee Santos) and Bernardino Pomer Sr. She was a longtime resident of Nutley before moving to Chatham recently. Modesta graduated salutatorian from T. Del Rosario Academy in Balanga. She went on to earn her Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of the Philippines in Diliman. After placing 4th on her board exams, she was employed as a Pharmacist at Pascual Laboratories in Manila.  Upon traveling abroad and eventually moving to Canada, Modesta worked as a Medical Technologist. There, she met her husband George and the two were married in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada in 1967.   She gave birth to her first child, Cecille and they moved to New Jersey to be closer to family.  She gave birth to her second son, Patrick. She was employed at Clara Maass Medical Center in Belleville until her retirement in 1999.


She was active in her community as a parishioner and member of the Apostolate Group at Holy Family Church in Nutley, a Co-Founder/Board of Director/Vice President of the Bataan Association and member of PAMET. Modesta enjoyed traveling, visiting Atlantic City and was talented at crocheting and cooking.  But, most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her loving family.


Modesta is survived by her loving children: Cecille West, son-in-law Larry West and Patrick Valdellon, siblings: Priscilla Gregorio, Sabina Sangalang,  Rosalina Medina, Bernardino Pomer Jr and Emiliano Pomer Esq., and cherished grandchildren: Aidan, Nicholas and Nathaniel. Modesta was predeceased by her beloved husband George Valdellon and siblings: Dominador and Carlos Pomer.
