On September 7, 2024 Paul Carmon 96, closed his eyes into the joys of the Lord at Sovah Health in Danville, Virginia. Please keep the Carmon Family in your prayers.
PAUL CARMON was born on August 1, 1928, to the late Robert (Bob) and Lucie Carmon (Roundtree) in Ayden, North Carolina, originally known as Ayden Township. Paul accepted Christ at an early age at Little Creek Disciples Church in Ayden, NC and would always worship when he would return home on visit. Paul was drafted into the United States Army Korean War and received Two Bronze Service Stars: United Nations Service Medals Combat Infantry. After the war Paul received his education in Ayden, North Carolina, graduating in 1956 from South Ayden High School.
Paul had a love for family especially his siblings who preceded him in death, Robert “Bob” Carmon, Jr., Alford Carmon, Thomas (TJ) Carmon,
James Carmon, John Carmon, Carrie Carmon, Reba Mae Cash, and Bernice (Carmon) West. Paul Carmon had four sons Donald Spellman (Doreen) of Atlanta, Georgia, three sons who preceded him in death, Roderick West (Baltimore, Maryland), Jerold Spellman (Greenville, North Carolina), and Vincent Cox (Baltimore, Maryland), six granddaughters Aisha Lampkin (Doug) of Atlanta, Georgia, Danielle West (Baltimore, Maryland), Anita Hooker (Donta) (Kinston, North Carolina), Montecia Burno (Newport News, Virgina), Jackie Boone, (Hampton, Virginia), Chastity

Paul Carmon worked for Dupont in Kinston, North Carolina and later decided to move to Baltimore, Maryland where he lived with his beloved sister Bernice West and began employment at Bethlehem Steel in Sparrows Point, Maryland until his retirement. Paul enjoyed his weekly/weekend visits at his niece “Gee” house where he would put everything on his plate including his slice of cake and gravy, take his
shoes off and say, “Gee I Gotta Go Now”.
After retirement he moved back to Ayden, North Carolina and continued to work for Pitt County Community College (Retired) and multiple funeral homes and he passionately assisted grieving families. Paul had a passion for “Flashy Dressing” and having the “Biggest Model Cars” even
though he would not let you eat in his vehicles he would give you a ride.

Paul was a dear person. He was loved by many at Pitt Community College. For several years he played Santa Claus to the children at the PCC preschool at the Moyewood Center. It was a pleasure to have known him.

I will miss Mr. Paul. He called me his daughter. He was a VERY patient and kind person. He loved cars and believed that his cars had to be clean at all times. He loved to drive!!!! When he was no longer able to drive, I became one of his chauffeurs, so we had long talks. He shared that he was the first bus driver for the ONLY Pitt County African American high School (WHITFIELD HIGH SCHOOL -- founded by the Late George Roscoe Whitfield). Mr. Paul stated that he had to get up early each morning to drive all over the county to pick up all the black students in the county. He was paid $16 per month. The Afro American citizens of Pitt County raised money to buy the bus and the County provided the maintenance.
I was Mr. Paul's primary caretaker. He NEVER failed to express his appreciation for my help. I saw him just a few days before he passed. He asked me to: “Tell everybody that I love them.”
May Mr. Paul's HUMBLE SPIRIT live on in the hearts and minds of those who had the honor to know him and may his soul rest in ETERNAL PEACE.

I am so glad I got the chance to see and talk with you while visiting NC in June. You smiled when I said I love you. You responded the same. Your eyes were bright. I will cherish that moment. Sleep on Uncle Paul and take your rest. ❤
