Phillis Garner Obituary

Phillis Dunn Garner was born March 19th , 1951  in Miami FL and died October 30th, 2024 in Avon Park, FL at the age of 73 from a long battle with cancer.

Phillis was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend.

She was always happy, loving and interested in the people in her life. Her faith was strong and God made her courageous in her life and in battling her illness. She showed us what it meant to live life to its fullest, regardless of the circumstances.

She met the love of her life, Andy Garner in 1967 at a dance at Graham Dairy Farm in Hialeah Florida. With her Father's blessing on November 21st 1968 they wed in Hialeah, Florida. Their romance and love lasted 56 years. In the early 80s she worked at Redland Elementary School in  Homestead Florida as a cafeteria employee. Phillis took the role of managing and became President of South Florida Backhoe services , our family business, a job she loved and handled with grace. In her fifties she furthered her education to become manager of food services at South Dade Senior High School. In 2004 her and Andy moved to Avon Park, Fl where she continued her career in the Highlands County school system. After retiring in 2016 she could be found along side Andy fishing and occasionally hunting. Retirement afforded her more time to spend with her children , granddaughters and Andy on Summer R. V. Adventures. From Washington D.C. where “ They DON’T know”. To Niagara Falls, New York on the Maid of the Mist. To the open valleys of Durango Colorado the Grand Canyon and Old Faithful in Yellow Stone National Park. Traveling from coast to coast over the years.

She is survived by her devoted husband, Andy, their children Angela and Keith. Her beloved granddaughters Savannah, Ashley, Kathryn and Macie. Her son in laws Matthew and his daughter Christine. Her stepmother Barbara. Her two sisters Joyce and Donna. Her brothers Phil and David. Her sister in laws Wanda, Carol and Maureen. Although we weren’t able to get together very often, we always enjoyed the times we did. Phillis was a wonderful person and fought bravely against her terrible disease.
