Norma Teresa Thompson, affectionately known as “Normi,” passed away peacefully on October 2, 2025, in Belton, Texas, at the age of 74. A beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great – grandmother, and friend, she will be remembered for her strength, faith, and unwavering love for others.

Born January 5, 1951, in Colón, Panama, to the late Timothy Henry Daley and Maud Manotice Guthrie Daley, Norma grew up in Bocas del Toro, Panama. She attended Almirante, Cristóbal Colón, José Guardia Vega, and Colegio Abel Bravo before pursuing higher education at Saint Leo College and the University of Central Texas.

Norma proudly served in the United States Army for 31 years (1980–2011), dedicating her life to service, leadership, and compassion. Rising to the rank of Master Sergeant, she served as a Medic and Noncommissioned Officer and was widely respected for her professionalism, mentorship, and devotion to her soldiers. She received numerous awards, including the Expert Field Medical Badge, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal (6x), Army Achievement Medal (4x), and many others, recognizing her excellence and sacrifice.

A trailblazer for women in uniform, Master Sergeant Thompson paved the way for future generations of female service members through integrity, grace, and faith. After retirement, she remained deeply connected to the military community as a dedicated member of the Women’s Army Corps Veterans Association, Chapter 94, where she fervently volunteered and continued to uplift her fellow veterans.

Following her military career, Norma devoted herself to faith and service through St. Paul Chong Hasang Catholic Church in Harker Heights, Texas. She served as a Sunday School Teacher, President of the Legion of Mary, member of the Ladies of Charity, Communion Minister for the Homebound, and OCIA leader. She also volunteered with the Bereavement Group, Food Care Pantry, Thrift Shop, and Senior Center. Guided by her personal motto, “Always keep God in your equation,” she touched countless lives through her compassion and generosity.

Norma’s passions included baking, cooking for her family, and traveling on mission and leisure trips. Her favorite hymns— “Blessed Assurance,” “On Eagles’ Wings,” “How Great Thou Art,” “Here I Am, Lord,” and “Amazing Grace”—reflected her abiding faith. Her sayings, “Quit whining—move on” and “To serve rather than to be served,” perfectly captured her spirit.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Alford Benson Daley, Sr. She is survived by her devoted husband Arthur Thompson; Children- Michellei (Ronald Randall), Michael, Sean, Quinton, Kevin, Andre, and Javier (Saida Daley). Grandchildren - Anthoni, Shaniqua, Javier Jr., Lorenzo, Reggie, Papi, Gavin, Marielle, Nova, Cadence, and Zaiden. Great-grandchildren - Iyanna, Zavion, Liam, Roman, Layla, and Amelio. Sisters - Ruby Daley and Vilma Daley; and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends who loved her dearly.

Her favorite scripture, Psalm 23, reminds us: “Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.”

May Norma Teresa Thompson rest in eternal peace, surrounded by the light and love she so freely gave to others.

It is hard for me to try and find the words to try and describe what she stood for. Everything that represents elegance, nobleness humbleness and strength just to name a few. I had the honor to serve with her side by side in the Armed Forces and I must say she was very proud to have worked the uniform. She definitely was a leader who set the example for her followers in the military and displayed the same courage outside the military to those who needed guidance. I learned very much from her that helped me to continue this journey in life. It was an honor to me when she allowed me to become part of her family as her son in law. I will always have her in my heart and spirit because wherever I go I do believe she will always be with me. My love will never diminish for you even though you are gone because the love you had for me will always meet in union. Rest in peace. Mom.

She taught us grace through action, strength through silence, and love through every meal, prayer, and hug. I’ll forever cherish her laughter, her stories, and the way she made every person feel seen. Rest peacefully, Grandma. Your legacy and love lives on in all of us.

Mrs. Thompson is such a graceful elegant God fearing woman. I know in my heart when she met the Lord he looked at her and said I’ve known you well my faithful servant. The last time I saw her was at church and she handed me the chalice, we both smiled at one another and received communion. It’s sad to think that would be the last time I would see her. I grew up with her boys, we were all altar servers in the mid 90s and I used to love seeing them in their suits dressed up for church. How lovely it is that she made sure her boys were dressed for church and even better she shared her love of the Lord with her boys. That is a wonderful gift a parent can share with their children if not the greatest. I will miss seeing Mrs. Thompson at church. I am praying for the family and husband during this time of grief. May we follow in her footsteps and be committed to the church and our families. May she rest in peace and may her family and friends find comfort peace and strength in their hearts. We ask you to be with them in the name of Jesus
