Rev. Dr. Marcellus Leonard Obituary

Dr. Leonard was my friend and my inspiration. I cherished our friendship and his poetic legacy!

He is in my acknowledgments in my first book of poetry. There is no way I could have went on to become a published author without his tutelage, I miss my friend!

I will remember Dr. Leonard for his kindness, his rich, melodious voice and his kingly bearing combined with simple, approachable humanity. I met him when I was a graduate student in the Learning Center at Sangamon State University in the early 1990s. It was a treat to work with him.
For his family and friends, I hope for every comfort and blessing for each of you. May you know the peace that surpasses all understanding.

Hoping you can find comfort in knowing that Marcellus is reunited in heaven, with his God and loving family. Our Thoughts and Prayers are with you

Dear Cousin Liz and family,
The love of a devoted husband and caregiver; a cherished father, grandfather and brother; a trusted friend, teacher and mentor, never leaves us. Like the Strong Roots and strong branches of his family trees, Marcellus will live on in our memories. Our Thoughts and Prayers are with you.

To Elizabeth and the Leonard family, Earth has no sorrows that God cannot heal, you all have suffered a great loss. Look to Good for strength, for he will give you whatever you need when you need it the most. The family is on my prayers. God bless? Your cousin, Cleveland, Ohio chapter

To the family: It is difficult to use the word sorrow to express what I feel about your husband, father, or grandfather. God blessed you with a gifted, compassionate, loving, generous man in your journey
on this temporary home, earth. I was blessed to know him and be one of the poets he mentored. He will
certainly be missed. He brought beauty and brilliant color to this world. May God comfort you and grant
you the peace that surpasses all understanding until we see him again in the better world.

Marcellus is remembered with joy and respect because he was a dedicated professor, a talented poet, and a good father, grandfather, husband, brother, son, colleague, and friend. His voice is now a part of the heavenly choir.

To a life well lived . . . I am thankful you were part of my journey. Rest well . . . Until we meet again.

To the family in this time of sorrow, I hope you find comfort in the memories and acknowledgements of the goodness Marcellus shared with this world. Bless you.

Sounds like an amazing man who led an extraordinary life. I never had the pleasure of meeting him, but know his amazing daughter, La'-Trice. My deepest condolences to all.

Family...May the peace that surpasseth all understanding comfort you all. Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not to your own understanding. I believe it is a unanimous agreement among Marcellu's loved one that, the Lord sent greatness through his compassion and intellect. It is said; believe a life well lived is more precious than rubies and it's legacy lives on... While we will miss him Jesus, Ma Leonard, Bernice and Kelly are among the heavenly greeting committee for him.

I had the honor of knowing Marcellus when he was a professor and I was the student publications adviser at the University of Illinois Springfield. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends.

I had the opportunity to know his daughter Latrice and her family. I would like to extend my condolences to the family on the loss of their dad.

Dear Marcellus, you will be missed. It was a pleasure working with you and I appreciate your guidance.
