Steven Barnes Obituary

Steven “Barney” Barnes, age 76 of State Center, passed away on November 1, 2025.

Steven Barnes was born on September 19, 1949 in Louisville, Nebraska to Lonnie and Doris (Tompkins) Barnes. He grew up in Marshalltown and loved having a pigeon coop in the backyard.

He served honorably in Vietnam and received many commendations for meritorious service. He lived in State Center for many years and had a passion for fixing up antique cars and motorcycles. He enjoyed attending motorcycle rallies with friends and fellow veterans. Barney also enjoyed fishing.

Barney is survived by his son, James “Mike” Barnes; sister, Susan (Barnes) Bunting. He is predeceased by brothers, Mark Uhde and Lonnie Barnes; mother, Doris Udhe; and father, Lonnie Barnes.

He will be sorely missed by his friends, relatives, and the furry friends that he fed on his porch.
