Mark Mullan passed away peacefully on February 7, 2025, after a courageous battle with Multiple Sclerosis. A proud native San Franciscan, Mark was born and raised in Noe Valley, where he cultivated a deep love for his city, his family, and his lifelong friends.
He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Phil and Mary Mullan, and his dear sister, Marybethe. He is survived by his devoted and loving wife, Ginny, and his cherished daughter, Gina Muller (Kalman), and his adored grandson, Nico. Mark also leaves behind his loving brothers, Mike (Jeri), Matt (Rosanne), and Marty (Tracey), along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends who will forever hold him in their hearts.
A proud graduate of St. Philip’s School and Sacred Heart High School (Class of 1968), Mark built friendships that lasted a lifetime and shaped the course of his career. Beginning as an apprentice splicer at Pacific Bell, he worked his way up to Construction and Engineering Manager for San Francisco, playing an instrumental role in communication infrastructure projects that continue to serve the city today. His expertise and dedication contributed to the construction of iconic landmarks such as the San Francisco Giants’ ball park, Moscone Convention Center, and Pier 39.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Mark found joy in life’s simple pleasures—fishing, reading, working with his hands, and exploring the world. He was a gifted storyteller, always ready to share his many tales, but above all, he cherished time spent with family and friends.
Mark’s legacy of love, hard work, and friendship will live on in the many lives he has touched. His warmth, generosity, and dedication to his loved ones will be deeply missed, but never forgotten.
A memorial service and celebration of life reception will be held on March 24, 2025 at 11am at The Most Holy Rosary Chapel located at 1 St. Vincent Drive, San Rafael, CA 94903

I had the privilege to meet mark for the first time on my interview for an engineering position back in summer of 2000. Still remember the firm hand shake to this day. Though I didn´t work for mark, I´ve gotten to know mark through the group dining get together in the north beach area through the years. Always a joy to hear all the stories.
My condolences to Ginnie & family and continue to cherish the good memories.

I can't say enough about how wonderful Mark was to work for. Our entire Engineering group worked together like no other! Mark always took time to listen and supported me in my career. He was so understanding and hired me on just a phone conversation. I send my deepest sympathy to Ginnie, Gina and his family. I got to visit with him a couple of years ago and I treasure that memory forever. May you be at peace Mark and know you left your mark in San Francisco! Love and miss you forever!

I started working for Mark in San Francico in 1992 in the Enginering Dept. He was a wonderful person to work for and be with every day. I am thinking about Ginnie and the rest of his family knowing she is so sad to lose Mark.

There’s not enough room or time for me to talk about Mark. Mark gave me a career in the phone company back in 2000 by accepting me under his wings, our friendship took off from there. Mark may not be with me physically, spiritually our friendship is timeless. Mark’s openness and transparency is what I admired about him most. He’d never hesitate to tell it like it is! I’m not worried about not being able to see Mark because I’ve got album after album of our times fishing in the Bay and in Mexico. Condolences to Ginny and to Mark’s family. He will forever be in my heart and in my thoughts. Wailan

Dear Ginny and Gina
We wanted to express our condolences for Mark´s passing. As you know Paul worked for Mark for many years and together we got to know him as a friend. Just about every nice word there is can be said to describe Mark. He was a good man and we are so sorry his journey became so difficult.
God bless both of you for making things so much better for him.

I first met Mark in the early 1970s when we were freshman cable splicers. In the 35 or so years that followed we were both promoted and our C&E paths would cross many times over; with Mark serving as my Manager. As a boss he was first rate and all anyone could ask for, approachable, fair minded, and supportive. We enjoyed being native San Franciscans working in our old home town. Mark could tell the most wonderful stories of life experiences growing up and working in the City. Those were golden moments spent with a Grand Fellow that I’ll remember forever.
May his memory be a blessing.

Mark, you could always entertain me with our conversations at 370 3rd Street in San Francisco. You were the boss of the Pac Bell engineers and I was a lowly contractor; well, maybe not lowly. You would be telling a story to me and every so often I'd glance at the clock and think, damn, I'm gonna miss another BART train. Oh, how I wish we could still do that. You are so missed and we love you. Pam and Ed

Mark, as we called Him, was one of the best friends I ever met.
I worked for Mark when I transferred to the city from the peninsula.
We became good friends, and was a good manager to work for.
I’m sure a few friends remember our annual fishing trips to Spa Buenavista, Cabo San Lucas where we had the best of times and great deep sea fishing.
I enjoyed our social dinners in the city with Mark and a few friends.
I know Mark is in peace now, and I will miss Him greatly.

My deepest sympathy to the family. Mark was a great man. I worked along side him for many years in San Francisco. My dad worked for Mark so Mark would always call me Junior. My brother also worked under Mark. He always had a great story to tell.

Marks mom Mary and my dad Jim were brother and sister, and some of my favorite memories were when our family of 6 would drive from LA (without notice) and arrive on their doorstep (with an arms wide open welcoming) to spend the weekend singing and dancing, cooking and eating! My most vivid memories of Mark were his kindness and silliness! He would come find me laying in a sleeping bag in a corner and tell me stories to help me get to sleep. His smile was like a ray of sunshine! Although I have not see him in many years, I will always remember his sweet face and his thoughtful personality. Here’s to your life in heaven Mark!

Mark got me started at Pacific Bell. He was one of the few managers who were a rare combination of stern and fair. I have much respect for him and will miss his great storytelling and sense of humor!
