It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Thomas Jay Walden on January 23, 2025 at the age of 63. Thom was a registered nurse at Spaulding Rehabilitation Center in Cambridge, Mass where he was respected by his peers and patients alike. Thom was an adventurous soul who loved to ski, sky dive, build boats and ride his motorcycle. Thom was building a house boat in anticipation of someday retiring to enjoy the soothing motion of the sea. He is the son of the late Robert and Anna (Thomas) Walden. Thom leaves behind his brother Joseph Walden of Everett, Mass., his sister MaryBeth and brother-in-law Stephen Wing of Ipswich, Mass, and his sister Carole and brother-in-law Henry Smith of Sanford, Maine. Thom also leaves behind family including Trudy Mercer and David Heward of Kennebunkport, Maine, Cabot and Cheryl Trott and sons of Eliot, Maine. Thom was a devoted uncle to Jessica and Christopher Winchester of South Berwick Maine, Matthew and Amanda Fleischmann Smith of Dover NH and Katelyn and Jaap Schothuis of Kennebunk, Maine. Thom enjoyed a special relationship with his great-niece Emma Winchester and great-nephews Ethan Winchester, Finn Schothuis and Rutherford Smith. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend visiting hours at the JF Ward Funeral Home, 772 Broadway, Everett, on Tuesday, January 28th, from 4-8 pm. To Carole, Mary and Joe,
Tom's sudden passing was quite a shock to me. Since the age of 8, he was always a very kind, considerate, caring and respectful gentlemen. I cannot imagine not seeing him across the street doing something. I will always have fond memories of Tom. Please accept my sincere sympathy and prayers, and may happy memories of times past bring you comfort. So sorry for your loss.

I awoke yesterday morning to hear that my long time colleague and friend Thom did not report to work last night on our unit. I have worked with Thom for almost 30 years and Thom had never not showed up to work. His last words to me were just last Friday morning. He told me how much he appreciated his colleagues and how much he enjoyed being a nurse on our unit. He promised he would retire with us. Thom was a gentleman. He was soft spoken, but had a great, quick witt. He was a kind, compassionate and caring nurseone that would pull up a chair to listen to his patients. Thom was a teacher and mentor to our new nurses. He was a man of great integrity that always stood to uphold the right thing to do for both his patients and colleagues. When he wasn’t at work, he was caring for his family, riding his motorcycle or building his house boat that he would one day retire on. His hopes and dreams were humble and simple. One of our own has passed. You were one of a kind. Forever South 2 family. Rest in peace my friend. Thom, we will never forget you .
