William Joe Sweet, son of Joe and Minne (Luzy) Sweet, was born May 29, 1939 at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa.  Bill received his education in Gillet Grove, Iowa and was later blessed with eight children.

Bill drove truck for Charlie Lachner and later owned his own gravel and dump trucks.  He had a bull dozer and did excavation in the area.  His C.B. handle was “Little Dozer”.  Bill loved the outdoors and established a landscaping business which he thoroughly enjoyed.

Bill liked fishing for catfish, riding motorcycles and following NASCAR racing.  He was a huge fan of the Minnesota Twins.  Bill looked forward to drinking coffee or Pepsi with his buddies at the coffee shop, the Donut Shop and Country Kitchen.  He could fix nearly anything and could often be found tinkering on lawn mowers, mopeds or cars and trucks.  In the last few years Bill enjoyed the van rides provided by St. Luke’s and going to the Roof Garden at the Lakes.

Bill passed away Wednesday, July 3, 2024 at St. Luke’s Lutheran Home in Spencer, Iowa, at the age of  85.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Minnie Sweet; a son, Randy "Buddy" Sweet; a grandson, Phillip Oviatt; four brothers, Kenneth, Leonard, Jim and Fred Sweet; four sisters, Lucille Campbell, Ruth Ness, Evelyn Sweet and Marty Sweet; brother-in-law, Alfred Ness; and nephews, Roger and Curt Ness.

He is survived by his children, Linda Cushing of Langdon, Iowa, Sharon Matthews (Leo) of Spencer, Iowa, Steve Anderson (Dot) of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, Lori Sweet-Oviatt of Spencer, Iowa, Heather Killmer (Brad) of Spencer, Iowa, Justin Sweet (Heather) of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and Aaron Sweet of Estherville, Iowa; nineteen grandchildren; thirty seven great grandchildren; as well as many other relatives and friends.
