Anthony Zakolski Obituary

Anthony Joseph Zakolski, (96) was welcomed into God's arms and joined his wife of 69 years, Lois on September 22, 2025. Anthony was a former resident of Somerset, NJ, moving to The Villages, FL in 2003. For the last 13 months he lived at Harbor Chase, an assisted living facility in Daytona Beach, FL. Anthony was born on February 17, 1929, in Perth Amboy, NJ. He graduated from Middlesex County Vocational School in 1949. After High School he joined the Army and was a radio operator throughout his tour, during the Korean War. He worked as a lineman for PSE&G for 40 years. While in high school he met the love of his life, Lois and they were married on April 11, 1953. He was an avid golfer and bowler and continued to enjoy both into his early nineties. Throughout his life Anthony hit ten hole-in-ones, an amazing feat beating the odds. He had a hard time relaxing or sitting still. He could usually be found tinkering in the garage or around the yard. One of his favorite hobbies was recycling electrical meters into lamps and giving them as gifts to close friends and family. Once Anthony and Lois moved into the Villages life became all about golfing, bowling, shuffleboard, and many more activities that kept them on the move. They even enjoyed mornings with water aerobics to help them stay in shape. Every day, they were out with a group of friends heading to the square or going to a social event with one of the many clubs they were members of. Anthony was also dedicated to his church, providing many volunteer hours as an usher. Moving to Daytona Beach allowed many more frequent visits from family already there. He enjoyed many outings, going out to lunch, dinner or days at the beach. Anthony loved going to the beach and relaxing with his feet in the sand or sitting on a patio listening to the waves. He absolutely enjoyed watching his Great-Granddaughter Amelia running around in the water and digging in the sand. He was always amazed at how she just kept going and never sat still for more than two minutes. He called her, The Tiny Tornado. Anthony loved family and being with them. He would constantly remind those around him to just "love one another". It was that simple to him. It was the little things that would put a smile on his face, like root beer floats, cookies and birds whistling in the distance. Anthony is survived by his daughter Denise Strothers of Daytona Beach, FL, sons Mark Zakolski (Lisa) and Steven Zakolski (Nancy) of Somerset, NJ, and his son-in-law Stan Kita of Mount Dora, FL. He is also survived by his grandchildren Nancy Jean (Bobby), Matthew (Annette), Jennifer (Chris), Michael (Courtney) and Zachary, great-grandchildren Kamrinn, Amelia & Savannah, brother Edward Zakolski of North Carolina and sister Helen Besecker of Piscataway, NJ. He was predeceased by his daughter Debra Kita, Son-in-Law Joseph Strothers, and his sister Stella Poulson.
