HELEN SOUSA Obituary

SOUSA, HELEN GLORINA (NEE TEBEAU) - died in her Knoxville home on Thursday, October 30, 2014. She was 91. Mrs. Sousa was born on July 31, 1923, in Bellingham, Massachusetts, as the seventh and youngest child to parents George and Louise Tebeau. After getting the attention of her future husband by knocking him out with a rock-filled snowball when both were teenagers, she went on to marry Joe Sousa in 1942. The couple had six children as Joe's Army career sent them around the world over several decades. An avid bingo and card player for most of her adult life, Mrs. Sousa also enjoyed spending time with her family and especially her grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Joe; her son, John; and her granddaughter, Leslie Durkin. Mrs. Sousa is survived by daughters Maureen Durkin, Kathleen McGarry, and Seanna Rupe and their spouses, Jon Durkin, John McGarry and Scott Rupe; her sons, Joseph Sousa and James Sousa and his wife Aimee; daughter-in-law, Tracie Sousa; brother, Barney Tebeau; twelve grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 8, 2014, at Rose Mortuary Broadway Chapel in Knoxville, TN.
