Joseph Prestipino Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Joseph Carmen Prestipino, age 70, on December 9, 2024, at his home in Kingston, New Hampshire.
Joseph was born on July 28, 1954, in Waterbury, Connecticut, to the late Peter and Nancy Prestipino. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Recreation from Slippery Rock University and a Master's in Education from Southern Connecticut State University. In 1977, Joseph was among the early "Thru-hikers" to complete the Appalachian Trail from Georgia to Maine, a journey that reflected his enduring love for nature and adventure.
In 1979, Joseph moved to New Hampshire, where he established a successful career as a Landscape Designer and Architect, specializing in softscapes, hardscapes, and water features. In 1998, alongside his wife Elaine, Joseph founded and operated Granite Creek Garden Center in Brentwood, NH.
After being diagnosed with cancer in 2009 and triumphing over it, Joseph channeled his resilience and community spirit into founding Country Joe's Farmstand. Through this venture, he provided fresh, locally grown produce to the community he cherished.
A resident of Kingston, NH, for over 48 years, Joseph was deeply involved in his community. He contributed his time and talents to the improvement of Kingston Plains and State Park and was an active member of the Quality Deer Management Association. A devout Christian, Joseph was a faithful member of the First Congregational Church in Kingston, where he participated/led a men's ministry group and shared his passion for faith and fellowship.
As James Taylor so eloquently put it, "Shower the people you love with love, show them the way that you feel." Joseph lived by these words, spreading kindness, encouragement, and love to all who knew him.
Joseph is survived by his beloved wife of 47 years, Elaine Prestipino; his daughter, Jolene Prestipino; his son and daughter-in-law, Jared and Cherise Prestipino; and numerous cherished friends who became family to him. He was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Nancy Prestipino.
Joseph came to know Jesus Christ at the age of 19, a pivotal moment that shaped his spiritual and moral compass for the rest of his life. He was a passionate writer, outdoorsman, and conservationist who loved hiking, skiing, camping, hunting, fishing, and snowmobiling.
A favorite verse of Joseph's, which embodies his faith and dedication to service, is "But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint" (Isaiah 40:31).
A funeral service to celebrate Joseph's life will be held on Saturday, December 14, 2024, at the First Congregational Church, 6 Church St., Kingston, NH 03848. Visiting hours are from 9:00 AM to 11:30 AM, with a service to follow from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM, and a reception immediately after.
Donations may be made to His Mansion Ministries (donation link) or the First Congregational Church Pastoral Care Program https://kingstonfcc.org/give
Joseph Prestipino will be deeply missed and forever remembered for his unwavering faith, boundless love for his family, and steadfast commitment to his community. He leaves behind a legacy of love and friendship that will span generations, inspiring all who knew him to live with kindness, generosity, and a heart devoted to others.

My thoughts and prayers are with you all today and the days ahead. So many memories since we were not just cousins, but we were neighbors too. We have been through a lot together good times and bad. Joey was young when his mom died.; she wasn´t just my Aunt Nancy but my friend too. I would go up there every day to check up on her.
When Joe got his skidoo, he come pick us up to go ride on the side road. I held on for dear life.; We would do some crazy spins. It was a great time.
We would have some great times in the rumpus room ; some nice family parties.
At the time Joe he was fighting cancer I was fighting too. We talked on the phone discussing how it feels to be a patient and how we are worried about our families. I learned something new about Joe that he was a great writer. I never knew that even though I haven´t seen him in years, he will be missed.
To Elaine, Jared and Jolene I wish I could say that this is the hard part, but I would be lying the hard part comes in the days ahead when you´re just sitting there thinking about your husband/ father. Someone said this to me at my dad´s wake and I wish I could tell you who it was because those were the most truthful words I´ve ever heard. Joe rest in peace.; there´s no more suffering you will be whole again. Reunited with a lot of love ones in heaven.

I was not privileged to know Joseph, but I’m privileged to know his son Jared (aka Beaver), and after reading about the incredible person Joseph was, I understand more about Jared and why he’s so special, so talented. He learned it from his Dad. I feel remiss that Joseph and I never met. If we had, I would have told him he did an incredible job parenting, that he raised a really cool son who shares his love of nature and adventurewho’s wildly creative, thoughtful, and bright. I’d thank him for affecting the world in such a positive way. And I’d tell him that his legacy will live on forever, because his son impacts the world, and especially our little family’s world, in a way that we will be forever grateful.

All my love to Jared’s mom, Jolene, and everyone else that knew, loved, and will miss Joseph. You were blessed, and he’s with you always.
