Emma Abrahamson Obituary

Emma Mae Abrahamson, 96, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 21, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.
Born on March 4, 1928, in Mystic, CT, she was the daughter of Adella Brousseau and Rachel Brousseau (Pierce). Emma spent her childhood in Ledyard,CT and graduated from N.F.A. In 1947, she married the love of her life, the late Ernest Albert Abrahamson, and together they raised six children.
Emma's nurturing spirit was evident early on, as she began her career as a nanny in Mystic, CT, where she developed a lifelong love for children. After marrying Ernie, she dedicated herself to raising their family in Preston, becoming a devoted homemaker. Her kindness, strength, and loving nature made her an inspiring role model for those around her.
Emma had many talents and hobbies, including sewing, cooking, baking, reading, and solving crossword puzzles. She also loved traveling and taking family camping trips, with visits to Amos Lake alongside their cousins creating many cherished memories. After she and Ernie retired, they divided their time between Preston, CT, and New Smyrna Beach, FL, savoring life together. Their travels across the United States were meticulously recorded in a journal that captured their many adventures.
Above all, Emma cherished her family. She was known for her warm, comforting hugs, her thoughtful nature-never forgetting a birthday-and her ability to bring everyone together. She took great pride in making handmade clothes and blankets for her loved ones, and any visit to her home was greeted with a treat fresh from the oven, especially her signature sugar and spice cookies.
Emma was also a member of The Grange, where she volunteered at dances and events and first met Ernie. She was a longtime member of the Ladies Auxiliary at Preston City Congregational Church, finding comfort and strength through her faith and community
She is survived by her four children: Gail Abrahamson, Wayne Abrahamson, Karen Abrahamson, and Ernie Abrahamson Jr., as well as 11 grandchildren, many great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren, her brother Pete Brousseau, and other extended family members.
Emma was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Abrahamson, her sons Gary and Charlie Abrahamson, her granddaughter Roxanna Abrahamson and her siblings Norma Allen, Harry Brousseau and Thomas Brousseau.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Preston City Congregational Church or another charity of your choice.
Baldwin Brothers Funeral Home of New Smyrna Beach is entrusted with arrangements.
