Era Smith Obituary

SMITH, Era W.

April 26, 1931 - September 6, 2025

Era Taylor Weeks Smith passed away on September 6, after a productive, long life of 94 years. A memorial service is scheduled at Dunwoody Baptist Church Chapel, at 12 noon, Saturday, September 27.

Era was born and grew up in Cook County, GA, and received a B.S. in home economics from the University of Georgia, in 1952. After teaching high school, she married Walter H. Weeks in 1956, eventually settling in Dunwoody, GA, after living in various regions of the U.S. She was married to Walter for more than 62 years, adventurously traveling globally with him during retirement.

Era was active in Dunwoody Baptist Church for more than 50 years, especially in the English for Speakers of Other Languages program, which she co-founded, and the International Sunday School class. She was also an excellent homemaker.

After Walter's death in 2018, she married Andrew L. Smith in 2021, and enjoyed almost four years of companionship and travel with him.

In addition to Andrew; Era is survived by her sons, Paul (Donna) of Marietta, Ray (Terri) of Dunwoody; daughter, Jane of King of Prussia, PA; grandchildren: Taylor, Lillie, Brinson, Jamie, Josie and Nick; and sisters: Loretta Lundy of Newnan and Olivia Sisson(Beau) of Signal Mountain, TN; her brother and sister-in-law, Bruce Taylor(Wilda) of Adel; and brother-in-law, Gilbert Lundy of Mobile, AL, preceded her in death.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Conscience International, P.O. Box 1163, Alpharetta, GA, 30009.
